I had never had Puerto Rican cuisine before but I'm a lover of worldly cuisine and spices. I had seen several reviews, pictures, and posts of this restaurant/grocery store so I had to stop in and see what it was all about.
I see what all the hype is about because everything I ate was delicious except the plantains, I didn't like the sweet and soggy taste of them. I came during a busy lunch weekday and it was booming with people. I wasn't sure where this place was so I had to call ahead to get directions and once I was informed where the exact location was it was simple to get to.
The parking lot is very small being that this business share lot with other businesses. I had to squeeze into one available spot. As I stated before, the place was bustling with people. I had to find an available table to dine upon.
The server was quite busy but he came over and took drink orders. I settle on a soda and for food I settled on a garlic chicken dish with yellow rice. I have the proper name of the items I order in the pictures I took of the food.
The food came out quickly even though there was one lady cooking for the whole restaurant. I thought that was impressive. The chicken was right up my alley, fried extremely hard and seasoned to perfection. I even loved the rice concoction. I'm a serious lover of rice anyway, so I knew I would like it. The plantains on the other hand was not my cup of tea. They were very soggy and sweet. The taste was off to me.
I really enjoyed everything else and was very well pleased with my first taste of Puerto Rican cuisine. I can see me coming to this place often and enjoy...
Read moreWe had a really enjoyable dinner at La Casa Latina. The restaurant has a relaxed, tiki bar vibe with just a couple other tables while we were there, so it felt cozy and casual. I had the steak and onion entrĂ©e and my husband ordered the octopus sandwichâthe bread on the sandwich was really good and both dishes were nicely presented. Our daughter had a pineapple juice, which she loved.
The sauces on the table were a highlightâcreamy cilantro, mayo ketchup, and a spicy green oneâall fantastic and full of flavor. Food came out quickly (about 10 minutes for the appetizer and another five for the mains), and everything was beautifully plated. Portions werenât very large, and drinks felt a bit pricey, but for what we got the price overall was fair. There wasnât a kidsâ menu, but when we asked about drinks, our server kindly offered juice selections.
Service was warm and attentive enough that we felt taken care of, even though we didnât get refills on our drinks. Overall, a flavorful, family-friendly experience and weâd...
Read moreIt's an Unassuming half eatery combined with store which if not recommended i would have driven passed it and missed out on a fabulous experience. I am beyond pleased with everything I tasted. From there selections of natural juices like soursop, passion fruit, pineapple, guava and to boot cold whole coconut water âș or cola champagne, Malta or carbonated drinks. Appetizers of empanadas, alcapurrias and tostones de pana (breadfruit) yes I couldn't believe these were on menu yummy. Trifongo or mofongo with whatever addition đ arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) in which the wonderful taste of recao was present but not overwhelming .To there Friday lunch special of sweet plantain with seasoned to perfection, ground beef covered with mozzarella on top with side of white rice and Puerto Rican seasoned beans and salad. Yes I could only wish I lived near by so to try many other specialties like the chicken breast in garlic and their trifongo wrap sandwich or the jibarito...
