My wife and I found out about Dating Yummy a few years ago when our friend who lived in Shanghai China before who was visiting and wanted to find authentic Chinese food and dumplings. We loved this restaurant particularly the YuShan Eggplant and MaPo tofu. We had noticed that the restaurant had changed names and the menu had removed these items a month or so ago and were disappointed. Tonight we were looking to get takeout and noticed the name and old menu had been restored. We were excited to have our favorites again but were quickly disappointed. First when I picked up the food I was told that they did not have a lot of MaPo tofu but that they gave me what they had and gave me a $5 bill back…weird. Then I got home and looked at the food and could tell right away that it was not right. The MaPo tofu had peas and carrots that were obviously from frozen and def not in traditional Chinese MaPo tofu. The eggplant was mostly bell pepper and odd pickled vegetables with very little actual eggplant. The crab cheese wantons were dry and flavorless. We were very upset after spending $50 on food that we could not stomach to finish after a few bites. I threw the food away. I decided to call and request a refund. The new owner was very hostile. I tried to be nice and just said the food was not what we expected and that we could not eat it as it did not taste right that we would like a refund. He raised his voice and was angry and kept insisting the recipes had not changed and asking when was the last time we ate there. He insisted that I drive the food back so he could look at it and maybe he would give a refund. I told him I threw the food away and would not spend another 30 minutes total in the car to drive back there. Even if I was in the wrong, the new owner was insulting and never made any attempt to listen to my concerns. I stated that MaPo tofu does not have peas and carrots. He responded stating “this is traditional Chinese, not Americanized.” The man is gaslighting me because I knew this is not true as I have had this dish at other restaurants for years and it never included vegetables. I looked it up apparently ONLY Americanized versions of this dish have peas and carrots. I will be filing a dispute with my credit card company for a chargeback. It is completely unacceptable to treat customers this way. Two thumbs down.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while now, and I’m so glad I did. It was kind of a far drive from Lakewood but totally worth it. We ordered a lot of food, including the wontons in chili oil, crab cheese wontons, pan fried pork buns, soup dumplings, sesame chicken (without sesame seeds bc of my daughter’s sesame allergy), general Tso’s chicken, combination lo mein, and hot and spicy boneless chicken. I was most impressed with the wontons, pork buns, sesame chicken, and hot and spicy chicken (which was dark meat chicken. The crab cheese wontons were delicious, but I’ve never met bad ones. The pan fried pork buns were unique because they are normally just steamed. The soup dumplings were soupy and did not tear when grabbing them with chopsticks. Pro tip: Mix the soy sauce with the chili oil for dipping sauce for the buns and dumplings! I was a little disappointed that they didn’t have scallion pancakes today but I will return to try those and the other menu items. The restaurant interior was very clean and nicely decorated, including the restroom. The staff was super friendly and attentive. My water glass was refilled many times and never was empty, so that’s my way to judge if service was good or not. If you’re in the area or just want good Chinese food, make sure to come here!

Stopped by for dine-in on a Sunday. Fantastic. Had General Tso's Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Braised Eggplant, Soup dumplings, War Won-Ton soup, and egg rolls.

First of all, the War Won-Ton soup for two was maybe the best soup I've ever had. It was that good. 10 out of 10. Amazing stock. I will be craving that whenever I'm sick. Would also be great after a cold day of skiing. Crisp pea pods, awesome chicken, tender beef, carrots, etc. Just plain awesome.

Chicken dishes were great. No veggies, but not a big deal to me. They are chicken dishes. Plenty of other dishes with veggies available. Had tons of veggies in soup, etc. Sauce was awesome. Super crispy. Tender white meat.

Soup dumplings. Wow. Not something I have often, but they were great and super fun to eat. They were also FREE after spending 45 bucks on other food/drinks.

Egg rolls were not the egg rolls I grew to love back east, but that is just a thing in Colorado... Very hard to come by actual egg rolls. These were the typical spring roll type we have here, but they were good. Side note, can someone please start making actual egg rolls out here already?

Egg plant was awesome and came in a clay type pot it was cooked in to stay hot all through the meal. Amazing flavor.

Service was awesome. Seemed like a family owned place. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to write this. I hope this place thrives. Will be a regular Sunday stop after fishing for my girlfriend and...

I used to really enjoy coming to Dating Yummy — the food was always hot, flavorful, and came in generous portions. The service used to stand out too. The Asian lady who used to work the front was fantastic: she always had water on the table right away, checked in on how the food was, and made sure you felt taken care of.

Unfortunately, that level of quality is gone. The current service is slow — it took forever just to get water, utensils had to be asked for, and no chopsticks were available. Even the chili oil, which used to be on every table, is gone. On top of that, the food portions have shrunk drastically, and what used to feel like a reliable, satisfying meal now feels underwhelming.

It also seems like there’s been a shift in ownership, and it shows. The Instagram is filled with Italian food posts, and even the décor now feels mismatched — like the restaurant doesn’t know what it wants to be. Sadly, Dating Yummy is no longer a go-to spot for me. The new management is failing to carry on what made this place special.

New ownership responded to previous reviews will a defensive attitude rather than understanding why customers are upset when portions are small and service is lacking. Thank you for carrying out a deep clean in the kitchen but it did nothing to help with the service...
