I've been a fan of Summermoon for years, typically going to the Mobile moon on Manchaca. I've moved and now this Slaughter location is more convienant and has a drive-thru. While I used to frequent the other location 2-3x/week, I won't be giving this Slaughter location my business any longer.
Sadly, I've given this location many chances and the service is incredibly slow. I took it for what it was and moved on since I do like their coffee.
Today I thought to give it one last chance as it was on my route. I intentionally wanted to use the drive-thru, against my better judgement, to avoid unloading my kids or take them out in the cold weather. I pulled into the drive-thru at 10:50am with only a hand full of cars ahead of me. I didn't pull away from the window with my drink until 11:11am. (20+mins) Not surprising, as I've had many other 20+ minute waits there before for one drink.
Today after still tipping the staff, I asked the drive-thru attendant if this is what customers should expect from this location. He stated they're supposed to be separating orders to make it move quickly but they hadn't been (though I'm not quite sure what that meant), and that they were...

However, we heard an employee through the drive-through glass criticize our order (my wife wasn't feeling well and at the last minute decided she did not want coffee and needed food, so she only ordered tacos which is something we never do) and upon bringing the employees actions to the attention of the manager, the manager in essence blamed us for ordering tacos as well. It will be hard going back to this establishment. We have never avoided a restaurant in the past, and this is my first google review about such a thing, if that tells you anything. We have tipped their employees well, especially all through Covid, so to hear them have such little respect for their customers is very disappointing. Summer Moon never responded to the email we sent them regarding this which further illustrates how the company feels about their customers. Read moreI'm almost don't want to tell you about SummerMoon, but maybe they can acquire the space next to them to expand. I "found" SummerMoon a few months ago. I have not been back to that Super big national chain coffee shop since. Everything about SummerMoon is better. Their Espresso Milkshake is MUCH better than the other places' frappe. Their service is 5+ stars and the atmosphere is super friendly.
I don't know how they manage to hire and train the best baristas around, but I think Adrian has a lot to do with it! Another secret is Norman, their CEO. Though he has a huge responsibility with 62 stores (I'm told), I've see him several times a month in this shop. He is the example of Servant Leadership - patient, teaching, always helping others, observant, and never passes anything without ensuring it is just right.
