Tifa Chocolate & Gelato — Restaurant in Bakersfield

If there is anyplace id say drop what you're doing and go, it's this place. Immediately we were greeted by two happy faces eager to hand out samples of the different flavors of gelato. Every flavor I tried was delicious, creamy and flavorful. The main question, was the stracciatella real or was it just chocolate chips. It's authentic! The owner went into detail of the ingredients he used as well as the type of stracciatella he used. The espresso gelato really scored well with me since I'm a bit of a coffee snob. I used to work in a coffee house Java Jazz in the late 90s. I got a taste of good coffees and espresso while working there. The owner ended up buying her own roaster...okay back to the review. I ended up getting the 3 flavor cup. Espresso chip, Stracciatella chip vanilla with chocolate, and the ube monster. All delicious together and had no issues with the flavors mixing. We (my girlfriend and I) also got and iced latte. The espresso is from a company called Groundwork, which is Los Angeles based. We got it unsweetened, which I should have gotten a flavor or some simple syrup. I just prefer my coffee drinks a bit on the sweetened side. I enjoyed it, my girlfriend loved it. This being important since she grew up in Italy. Her dad was stationed at Aviano AFB. So her mentioning that the experience made her feel like she was home definitely spoke volumes. It's a bit out of the way for us since we live close to downtown Bakersfield, but absolutely worth the drive. If you happen to be attending an event at the Riverwalk Park or plan on going, take a few minutes and grab some gelato. It's literally less than five minutes of driving time from the park. We have found our new spot for a frozen treat year round. If it's cold, try some with a hot latte or a dopio espresso. I didn't try any of the truffles since our main mission was to get gelato. This gelato spot is seriously a gem! The servings are HUGE (definitely come hungry), and the flavors are super yummy—so many options and every one I’ve tried has been delicious. The inside is so cute with a cozy vibe that makes you want to hang out and stay awhile. They make their gelato fresh in-house, and you can taste the difference. On top of that, their coffee is amazing too—such a perfect combo and unique addition to Bakersfield.
