The Getaway Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Baldwin Township

We play basketball at a gym near them all the time and thought it would be fun to eat after the game. The entire team and families rsvp’d to attend as well. We called ahead and they reserved us tables. Unfortunately the setup didn’t allow the team of 10 year old girls to sit together so we asked them to adjust the tables. They rudely refused and then another parent stepped in and then they accommodated the request. Was ready to take our business elsewhere at that point. But we stayed. Then we ate/drank and my family had nachos with chili and wood fired supreme pizza. The nachos lacked chili but were loaded with super spicy jalapeños. Almost inedible. The pizza dough was still dough, undercooked and lukewarm warm. Then the owner/manager(?) decided it was time for us to leave because he said people were waiting ( nobody was waiting). We were playing a game with our coach all in good fun in our own area that was provided to us, that apparently that irritated the manager. The waitresses never even brought out checks for anyone because they disappeared after food was finally served. So to ask us to leave at that point was way out of line. None of us had a check on the table to pay! Not a single adult or child was misbehaving nor was alcohol a factor. (Maybe that’s what pissed him off, he thought we should have spent more lol ) We we easily spent $500+ and should not have been treated that way. It was bizarre to me why? Anyway, we will not be back and the other establishments in the area can have our money instead! My background: I’ve been in the restaurant business for 30 years and never ever would have behaved the way the servers and the manger...

My husband and I eat out at least four times a week for dinner..... We made a big mistake eating at the Gateaway. If you want to pay $15.00 for a pot roast dinner and mashed potatoes with no salad or vege you will be happy. I asked for a vege, and they said then I would get no mashed potatoes. THAT IS REDICULOUS....Oh I could pay $2.25 more for the salad or vege.... Our food was very good. The hard rock music came on blasting, and another couple complalined to the owner. He turned on 60's music and Aquarius was then blasting though the restaurant. The waitress was nice enough to get me a vegetable seeing I was aggravated. She got chewed out in the kitchen by the owner for giving me one. The owner then came to the table told me he would not have given me the vege, and she did it on her own. I told him no salad or vege with a dinner was unheard of in any other restaurant. He was nasty that I said that. Then I said the music was not dnner music. He point blank told me "Hey, the menu says what you get, and that's that, and as far as the loud music...what is wrong with you for not liking the 60's music. I am a music lover, but not blasting with heavy bass at dinner...... Oh, and I also had an Enjoy Book coupon for a dinner which I used. He yelled through the restaurant......and they are even using acoupon. We are in our 60's, and will NEVER NEVER NEVER eat at the Gateaway again. The owner basically told me to go to .... If you want to go through this kind of service......enjoy the Getaway. We left our dinner, and paid our bill.........then walked out. I came home and cooked. Good luck to anyone that goes in. Me and my family go there around 4:15. We noticed on the board when you enter it said 99 cent wings. So that what we ordered. Me, my son, and husband ordered wings. I even said to the waitress please add a side of French fries so we can share for the wing special. Got our receipt and we was charged because it wasn’t happy hour. (Which I would totally understand, but on the board when you enter it doesn’t say happy hour starting at 5, it just has the specials.) so we had our mind set on what to order when we sat down. When we got the check for almost $100 I was shocked. I asked about it and was told happy hour started at 5. It was 4:45 at this point. I said well I wish you would have told us considering I said we wanted the special on the board for the wings. She said it was on the table the specials which was behind the ketchup. I said I honestly didn’t even look at that thing and was going off of what the board said. I don’t mind paying for my food, but it wouldn’t have been wings if I knew I wasn’t getting the special I asked for. Not to mention the drunk guy swearing and screaming at the dart machine. Then some lady was like just so you know the specials are at this time. Look I get when the special is, but it isn’t stated on the board and she looked at it. She said noted I will make sure it says that. Not a good experience for a first time visit. We would of loved to come back but unfortunately our experience...
