Bathrooms are absolutely not accessible or ADA compliant, no signage that I could see. Great parking, ramps look good. I didn't see an elevator. Largely confusing to navigate. Ambiance was great, mostly clean. Armed security completed the feeling of eating at some high-end compound with its brutalist architecture, dim lighting, and dark grey colour scheme.
They did what they could to accommodate some of our table's needs: certain seating, turning the blaring music down, making eye contact, showing the written crab prices on their pad instead of trying to do it all verbally. Excellent credit for that.
It was in no way worth $200 for three people. The two drinks were great but not enough for that price point.
Staff experience: To my face security was very kind, made eye contact instead of staring at my medical equipment. As I walked away they were not at all subtle about checking out my butt. Two different people on two different occasions. But hey, they weren't on their phones. I held my breath as I walked past the one with the lit cigarette because I'm allergic to smoke.
Our glasses were empty often and I gave up on asking for what I wanted, basics like mallets and drawn butter. When present the server was very kind and attentive, but I kept wondering if there was a shift change or they were on a smoke break that turned into an explosive bathroom incident or something. The people who brought food out disappeared in a flash so there was never time to ask for our server.
The crabs were $120/doz. large, which was inflated but fair for a higher-end place. They had a salt on them that made any other flavour impossible to discern in the in-house topping they tout on the menu. We ordered a dozen, I stopped at four because two of the crabs were so light and one was black. If crabs were measured by weight it would have been a bad catch. I felt very bad for those crabs that got wasted.
And we didn't have utensils, anyway. When we finally did get utensils the server said the restaurant had mallets but no knives, and I was already frustrated with the wait and the seasoning. I'm really not fussy about crabs because once they're on the table I don't want to waste the animal if I don't have to, but enough was enough.
The bill added a blanket 3% charge just because, rather than build the cost of making and serving into their items. Then what's the tip for? I am a good tipper because I believe in supporting people, and although I didn't alter my tip I left there aggravated for the unnecessary surprise, automatically added with the onus on the customer to face the server and ask them to remove it. I also prefer to tip cash so that it's up to the team to decide how to split their tip, but didn't bother because I just wanted to get out of there.
At the end of it, the final indignity was that I hurt my leg on the unlabelled step down several inches to get into the upstairs bathroom. So watch for that.
Sucked. Not a $200 meal. I'd pay a premium to not go there in the future. I was so embarrassed that I offered to cover the whole check for the table because I had picked the place.
They're a busy establishment, so I would imagine if you have all the money you need and you're able-bodied, you'll have a care-free and lovely time. My...
Read moreI had the worst birthday dinner experience this past Friday at Jimmy’s Famous Seafood in Baltimore, MD. It started and ended with their rude hosts. I had made an 8:45pm reservation for that Friday, but I looked online at around 6:24pm. They had a 9pm available, and due to one of my guests running late, I called to see if it was possible to move the reservation 15 minutes later. So I called the restaurant to ask if they could move my reservation to the 9pm slot, and the host told me yes, that was fine. I arrived to check in around 9:05pm. The host told me they had a 15-minute grace period, and because I was out of that window, they gave my reservation to someone else. There was no space in the dining room for me and my two guests to sit and eat. I explained to the host that I was within my 15-minute window because my reservation was moved to 9pm when I had called at 6:24pm. She said it was still listed as 8:45pm, and she could do nothing but seat me in the bar where I didn’t want to spend my birthday. If she had been kind and apologized, I would’ve felt less irritated, but she showed no concern, had an attitude, and didn’t care.
When we went to the lower level where the bar was located, we were seated right at the front door, where it was freezing from people coming in and out. Even though the table area was supposed to be considered the restaurant area, the waitress made us give her one of our cards to start a tab even though we were just dining. Our lemonade and sodas were watered down, and the food was overrated and underwhelming.
The next morning, I checked my bank statements and noticed that I had been charged $89 for my meal and an extra $60. I asked my friends who came with me to check their bank statements, and one of my guests was charged $84 for her meal and had an extra $102 charge on her card. We called the restaurant when they opened, and I asked if I could please speak to a manager and with an attitude, Stephany, who answered the phone, told me straight up no, I can’t.
I told her that what I was calling for required a manager, and she rudely again said no, I can’t talk to a manager. And I told her that my guest and I were charged extra and needed to speak to a manager. When she, with an attitude, looked into what happened with my name and credit card number, she told me that I had a reservation and that I had not shown up and was charged $60 for a no-show.
I told her I had paid $89 with that same debit card when I ate there the day prior, so obviously, I had shown up for my reservation. She rudely told me the $60 had been refunded, and my friend spoke to her next. Stephany started listing what was ordered that cost $102, and none of us ate those items. She tried to say that this bill came from one of us, and she named the person, but it was a male we didn’t know. So she took my friend’s name and number, and about 30 minutes later, a manager called back and apologized. The manager didn’t know how my friend was charged for someone else’s meal but said she’d look into it and refund my friend. The manager’s guess was that the check amounts were similar, so her card was double charged. My friend’s meal was $84, and the extra charge was $102. Those 2 check amounts are...
Read moreI returned to Jimmy’s (dining room) today after returning two months ago (Jimmy’s Live), after a three year hiatus. It must be the dining room staff. My horrible experience three years ago and today’s experience was the dining room staff.
My husband ordered a seafood omelette. He said it was good. His shrimp were dirty though (contained the intestinal tract).
I ordered a breakfast sandwich with home fries (full of eggs, minimal bacon, flavorless home fries) and asked if my bread could be lightly toasted. As I do not like hard bread. Waitress Jennifer S. response was I can’t promise. I repeated my statement and she said I can make a note.
How hard is it to toast the bread lightly? That is a simple task. I can’t promise should not have been a response. Especially when you have a menu that says if you ordered it, you purchased it. If I ordered it, it should be made to my liking.
Her response turned me off. As I was about to order additional items (steam pot, clams, and scallops). Instead of ordering the additional items, I am now on my way to Mama’s On A Half Shell to give them my hard earned money.
I will not be returning. I like to have a rotation of restaurants, but this is no longer in the rotation. I traveled from PA and this is the service I received. If your customer service is not right you can keep the food. Jimmy’s can keep the food.
Previous review from 2 months ago. I wanted to show my previous review compared to today.
We were frequent visitors at Jimmy’s. Three years ago was our last visit as the entire experience was horrible. Fast forward to yesterday. My cousin picked Jimmy’s for our first cousins’ dinner and I must say that came up.
We sat at Jimmy’s live. The entire staff was attentive and very nice. There were TVs all over to watch football and later on there was live music. Good live music.
Lets get into the food. We ordered $520 worth a food. Don't mind us we like to eat. Everything (crab pot, steak, lamb, stuffed shrimp, crab cakes, oysters, crab soup, crab egg rolls, and a bunch of sides) was good.
We will definitely be returning. Side note: they charge an 18% gratuity and a made-up 3% charge (labor of love). If you don't want to pay it don't go. I did not mind paying it because the service was good.
I stopped visiting three years ago over this charge. The automatic gratuity and horrible service did not sit well with me. Hopefully they have a remedy when staff does not earn the gratuity. This time they did...
