Daveâs is a âCash Onlyâ place.
Daveâs Pizza is one of those places that I am not sure how it popped up on my radar. I canât remember if it was suggested to me by someone or if its something that came up while looking for local restaurants to try. Either way, this day found Matt and I driving there for lunch. We went in with no expectations. No hype. No idea what the place was about (besides selling pizza).
We were seated at a table and given menus. It took some debate on what to order as a few things looked good. Matt and I have similar tastes but mine tend to be a bit more eclectic. We settled on something that had pepperoni and green peppers on it? Looking at my photo and the menu, I donât see what it could be, so I am going to guess we built our own pizza. Thatâs the thing I love about pizza⌠you can customize it a million different ways.
Order placed and small talk ensued. While talking about random stuff, I looked around to take in the aesthetics. This is when my stomach dropped to my knees. I noticed a sign that said âCash Onlyâ or something to that effect. I looked at Matt and mentioned what I say. We both had some cash on us but wasnât sure what the final bill would be, so we mentioned something to the waitress. She said they had an ATM inside we could use if needed and we arenât the first to be caught off guard by that policy.
The pizza came out and we dug in with apprehension about the bill. It took a few bites to get my brain focused on the fact that I was eating something yummy. Pretty yummy at that. It wasnât a pizza that blew my socks off but it did itâs job and that was enough.
By the second slice, I was happy and forgot about our dilemma for the time being. Matt and I put down most of the pizza and he let me have the âto-goâ container that held the last few pieces. We both really enjoyed the pizza as we discussed it a bit on the way home.
When we go the bill, we were both a bit surprised at how much higher it was than we expected. This didnât make our situation any better. We both had to dig in our wallets to see what cash we had on hand. By the grace of the pepperoni god above, we had just enough to cover the pizza and leave a tip. This was a valuable travel lesson to learn. Always have some cash on hand in case of these situations. Some of these small town places are still cash only to avoid paying those debit/credit card transaction fees. Knowing and talking to a few small store owners, they all say those fees really add up over time.
Daveâs Pizza. A place we visited with no expectations and left satisfied, if not more relieved...
Read moreFirst time trying the pizza and from the local area.Tried to search for a website but didnât find one and just found an old menu on the photos. Ordered sausage and pepperoni pizza which after reading the reviews now it says itâs just spicy hamburger wish I knew that before. Picked up the pizza and got home in a couple minutes and the pizza was cold and had a very old look to it like it has been sitting out for awhile. It was to the point where the cheese was hardening and had to be recut to prevent all the toppings from ripping off. The crust had the style of a frozen pizza and no taste. Overall it wasnât horrible but for 15 bucks it would be better to go down the street to Pizza Hut...
Read moreA group of us were in town from North Dakota, Minnesota, and Chicago for a training event. We had to check out the local pizza joint while here. Daves is a smaller restaurant, and mini bar, with a family owned feel. Menu was not over the top with an excess amount of choices. These translated into a budget friendly meal for the 8 of us. The waitress was pleasant and quick to handle the group. The â3 Meat Trioâ was the primary selection as we ordered 4 of them. I will say it was a very good choice and I left with a full belly and some leftovers for a midnight snack. Looking forward to coming back so I can try the pasta. Highly recommend this place. You wonât be...
