I’ve been coming to Fred’s for years and usually love the place. The bartenders, music, and atmosphere are all great. Last night, however, I had the single worst experience I’ve ever had at a bar.
I was invited to the VIP section by a friend celebrating their birthday, yet the bouncer refused to let me in. I offered to pay cover, but he said he was “told I’m not supposed to come in,” despite the person who invited me literally standing next to him insisting I should be allowed. No attempt to understand the situation, just a flat denial.
I’ve never written a negative review before, but this was beyond unprofessional. Honestly, I guess it makes sense. When you’re 30+ years old and overweight working as a bouncer in Baton Rouge, you probably don’t have a lot of control over your own life, so you cling to the tiny bit of authority you get at the entrance. Shallow, empty existence aside, it’s just terrible customer service. That being said, I have nothing but respect for the management at Fred’s. As I said before, I have been coming here for years, and will continue to do so. It is recognized nationally for a reason. I would like to say thank you for the excellent service I have experienced thus far, but I would also like to voice my complaint for today, which left a very sour taste in my and my...
Read moreAh Fred's..'The Moose Lodge'.. 'The Poonani Palace". There is a lot to be said about this oasis of Baton Rouge. Everything from the employees to the drinks and even the memorabilia on the walls exude a certain level of both excellence and debauchery. Let me paint you a picture of just how magical Fred's can truly be. Flashback to December 2011, a freshly turned 21 year old (me) down in the dumps balancing school and a frivolous love life searching for how to spend my Friday night. I took the night bus from campus into the "land" and in the distance like some kind of mirage was this red building with a large horned beast on the front. Drawn in by curiosity i hopped off the bus and made my way inside. Just as i crossed the threshold something beautiful happened... PARTY ROCK ANTHEM was blaring through the speakers. A honey hole of exotic and beautiful women dancing the night away. Bartenders greeting me with smiles waiting to take my order. This was it.. A paradise on earth. So next time you wonder where to spend your night and your money. Go to Fred's. You...
Read moreThe main event after any Tiger football game, win or lose. The outdoor tent is hotter than heck, you will invariably get drinks spilled upon you, the drink prices are jacked up compared to competitors in the area but what do you expect for "the" giant college bar in the area. The outdoor patio is nice on days when the tent isn't up. The crawfish boils are fun in the spring.
Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the bartenders have a bad habit of writing in their own tips. Has happened to just about every one of my friends. You tip $2 or $5 and it somehow becomes $10. Pretty lame in my opinion but if you pay cash you avoid...
