I don't know where all these other reviewers are eating, but it certainly isn't Stella's in Battle Lake Minnesota.
First thing I noticed was the awning outside was tattered and had moss growing on it (I should have left at that point). Second, we sat down and the table was sticky. It wasn't like they were busy either, it was Friday at 7:00 P.M. and maybe there were four tables with customers.
The waitress was SUPER nice, I liked her and she did a great job! How she didn't notice the ripping sound the menu's made when she tore them off the sticky table is beyond me.
The restaurant is WAY TOO LOUD and open. Like everything anyone says just echoes throughout the room. It's hard to have a conversation when you have to yell to your partner to compete with the table across the room.
Finally, the food. HORRIBLE! We had the Crab and Artichoke dip. There is NO crab there is NO artichoke in it. Basically it was cooked cream cheese with mozzarella broiled on top. The bread it was served with tasted like week old mass produced bread, it wasn't ciabatta, it wasn't cooked, it wasn't buttered and broiled. Just cut up and put in a bowl. ZERO stars for this dish, it was nasty!
We also had the Walleye Pizza. I love pizza, I love walleye, I love fish tacos, I love pretty much all fish any way it can be cooked or not cooked. So this sounded like a fish taco on a pizza. Cool! NOPE! The pickles are dill pickles. Totally ruined the whole thing. And, where was the avocado crema? Where was the cilantro and chipotle drizzle? The sauces were tasteless or absent. It was basically fried walleye sticks with cabbage, jalapeno, and dill pickles.
Overall, this was a huge waste of money and not a good time, and I guess my partner and I were "too polite" to complain, but we should have. You need to step up your game, I can walk across the street and get better bar food for less. Or I can drive to Perham and have an amazing meal for the same as what...
Read moreHaving traveled the world and working for 12 years in the hospitality business; I know to give the benefit of the doubt to any restaurant and its shortcomings. We chose Stella out of 3 restaurants for a our lunch after spending the day in Glendalough State Park because they had an outdoor space. There was a sign as soon as you walk in stating 'SEAT YOURSELF'. We did and sat outside. There were 2 tables outside that were dining and one larger party inside. We waited for a while and no one came to our table. I got up to get menus after 5-minutes. No one was around and I grabbed them myself from the shelf they were in.
I brought them out to my family. We took our time and even decided what we were going to order and still no one acknowledged our presence. We saw a server come outside but she only attended the tables that were already there and never once said, 'a server will be right with you.' We even called out to get her attention but she pretended to not hear us. After a while, we saw a second server come out and instead of coming to us she proceeded to one of the other tables. My sister was furious and said, 'no, we can't stay here.' We left and ran into the second server at the entrance to the patio and we told her that we waited for a long time for service and it is ridiculous how many times we saw a server and she never even said 'hi'.
I wish I could say this place was busy. I understand busy is not the same in NYC versus Battle Lake, MN but come on, customer service! We decided to eat next door to the Battle Lake Boathouse where we received great,...
Read moreHorrible horrible service! The waitresses are so rude, I cannot believe they are still in business! We came here for a show and the doors opened at 8pm. First, we were told by the staff we were not allowed to order drinks until the restaurant closed at 9pm because it would "disrupt the restaurant". Everyone working here was so stressed out and acted like they could care less about customers. At the end of the night we were returning our glasses to the bar and we overheard 3 waitresses in a booth complaining about the night, then one stood up and said "CASE IN POINT!" (and proceeded to point at us) then she said "LADIES!! CAN I HELP YOU?" Almost as if she was waiting to turn us down if we wanted more drinks. We said we were returning our glasses and closing out our tab. Then still upset said "OH, WELL, THANK YOU!" I have never been treated this way in my life at a restaurant or bar. I will NEVER come back here again. All of my friends had the same experience and have said they would never come back either. If you make enough money from your tourist season you can be rude to locals, then I hope you can survive with only business from customers that have never been here before or frankly don't care if they get treated badly. I'm sorry to say I hope this place doesn't survive. It wouldn't be a...
