It was surprising to see an Indian restaurant so close to Death Valley. On our way back to Pahrump from Death Valley National Park we stopped here for a quick dinner. The restaurant is inside the gas station and well lit with sitting arrangement. It was just me and my wife ordering food. When we ordered the food the cashier said that the food will be ready by 30 minutes. But even at 1 hour mark we had to keep asking "when is the food arriving". After sometime the food arrived. My wife selected the chana masala and jeera rice. It was watery and tasted okey. I had ordered the chicken tikka masala with roti. The curry tasted fine but ALL the chicken pieces tasted so OFF or rotten !! I didn't eat after 2 pieces of chicken. The food was disappointing for me,especially after waiting for more than 1 hour in a relatively empty restaurant. I must say that some of the staff over there were apologetic as the service was getting late.
There was another group over there. We felt bad for them as they were still waiting for the food who came much before us whereas we got our food.
I would rather call and place an order for pick up instead, at least 30 minutes before, to avoid this...
Read moreGood Indian food at a gas station!!! What? Yes! We had the Chicken Vindaloo, Mixed Pickles, Aloo Paratha, Vegetable Samosa and Chai Tea. All were very good. The standouts were the Samosa, Chicken and Pickles. Samosa was fresh and steaming hot, beautifuly fried with delicious filling. Chicken was perfectly cooked and trimmed served in a nicely balanced sauce that made you want to have more at each taste. Now, the Pickles, what incredible flavor profiles - aromatic, bitter, spicy, sweet, tangy, sharp; an incredible sinus clearing palate cleanser. Chai Tea was aromatic and spice filled that puts ANY pumpkin spice latte to shame. We requestes the least sweet version of Chai and glad we did.
All the food was cooked fresh so be prepared to wait a while. I would NOT do take out because the food will turn steamed in the container and ruin the flavors.
Definitely order the Mixed Pickles no matter what just to get the experience. It's definitely not for everyone, but if you are a tad adventurous, please try it. It helps refresh your palate.
