First of all, I love this place! I love brisket and good brisket in eastern North Carolina is hard to find, so I really appreciate the effort that these guys do to make brisket! Been there at least 4 times. It was definitely a five star experience, plenty of napkins in my to go order, generous with the serving size and their sauce, which is delicious. However, I have a complaint tonight and I only do this in the hopes that they take this feedback as a gift and not criticism. I ordered a A full pound of brisket and half a pound of pulled pork, to my surprise when I got home, and I live 25 minutes from Beaufort, so it’s pointless calling the store and complaining because by the time I get home it is too late. There were only two small packets of their delicious barbecue sauce in my order, but plenty of delicious cornbread, which i did not request. I don’t know if this is their policy or this was an oversight, but for the amount of protein I purchased I would have expected a little bit more sauce. the last four or five times I ordered less protein. I got more than enough of the sauce, so I’m a little complex of why I barely got any sauce in my order with as much protein as I purchased. The two little cups that they provide me were barely even half full, so please redneck barbecue lab make sure that the cups that you provide are full and that you provide more than 2 cups for almost 2 pounds of meat. This is a small criticism and I hope you take this feedback as a gift, because I will still continue to purchase all my brisket from you guys. It’s very delicious. Your sauce is amazing, but it was just slightly disappointing when I got home with bearly enough sauce for my brisket and pulled pork. You guys keep cooking low and slow and I’ll keep purchasing! I’ll ask for extra...
Read moreIt was cold. The food was cold, the service was cold, the restaurant was cold. When I walked in the people behind the counter just stared at me. No offer of service. I ordered and was met with simple grunts. I ordered just a bbq sandwich, mac and cheese, and iced tea. I got to the table with my food and tried the mac and cheese. It wasn't hot, it wasn't even warm. First bite and all I could taste was pickled jalapeño and maybe old bay. It didn't taste like mac and cheese. shrugs I ate it, it was broadly fine. The sandwich was cold. The bun was cold, just pulled from a plastic package and topped with meat. It had never felt warmth, God forbid we make an effort to toast it at all. I took the top bun off and used it to try the different sauces. They were all chilled, like wine fresh from a cooler. They were okay, all tangy and sweet. One was tangy and sweet with the barest hint of heat. I took a bite of the meat next. It was good. Nice flavor, not dry. But again, cool, not hot or even warm. I put the sauce that had a hint of heat in it on the bbq and ate it with my fork. I didn't eat the bottom layer of sad, cold bun. The tea wasn't sweet or unsweetened, just somewhere in the middle. Overall everything was just okayish. There was nothing that made it worth the money I spent and when I was done eating I was wishing I had just followed my instincts and gone to the McDonald's...
Read moreThis is the "new" store in the old Roland's BBQ location. For those of you raised on Lexington and ENC style Q like me, you'll find their meats to be different in taste, texture and color. There's a heavier smoke flavor, which I like. The pulled pork is usually spot on. The brisket at this location has been hit or miss so I stick with the pulled pork. I haven't tried the ribs here yet. Their sides are top notch, especially the collards and mac and cheese. I still think the location in McGees Crossroads is a notch above this one, but it's still very good. There's plenty of parking and seating. They usually have a daily meat and 2 sides special. Their ordering process is still a bit goofy because it creates a bottleneck when you first walk in on a busy day. Again, the McGees location has it down to a science, you order, pay, take a seat and they call your name. In Beaufort you walk along the line like you're at a salad bar and pay at the end after you've gotten your food. Ah well, at least it's...
