I decided to try them out since they were my closest Chinese restaurant, and I feel like I wasted my money. I have tried many different Asian take outs, and know what flavors I should expect. I ordered beef fried rice, orange chicken and sa cha beef.
The fried rice was bland and orange, with few veggies. It had large pieces of beef in it, like the beef from dishes was just added without cutting it down to an appropriate size for the dish. The orange chicken only tasted of orange when you hit a peel, otherwise there was not much flavor to speak of. The sa cha beef was better, but not by a lot. It had some chili flakes which helped, but even that seemed to taper off. My sister tried the orange chicken, her fav Chinese dish, and she didn't want any, so it's not just me.
Ultimately, Great Wall is a small-town Chinese place that feels like it's just going through the motions. The food is unremarkable, the staff seems uninterested in their customers and for $37 and some change, there are better options within 15 minutes. The portions were pretty standard in the to-go containers I got for my carry out compared to other...

Now...about the evil incarnate lady behind the counter. It started out odd. Then over the years kind of became funny actually. I remember texting my neighbor "It finally happened. 5:55PM Nov. 11th 2019. Great Wall lady smiled" 3 years and 3 months later and she's become intolerable. I've hit my limit. Bitter, caustic, venomous. All these words fit and aren't an exaggeration. I used to be torn about whether to tip... no more. I'll probably go back in rare cases when I don't feel like driving to Asian Cafe in Monticello but I think the 8-10 mile round trip will usually be worth it from now on. I'll honestly be glad to not have to interact with her anymore. This says a lot considering all she had to do was take my order, collect my money and hand me my food. I don't even need friendly, just not...
Read moreOver the years we have figured out there are some dishes we don’t like. Our go to’s are: lemon chicken, orange chicken, chicken with garlic sauce, pepper steak with onions, sesame chicken, and their awesome wontons. I have noticed people bashing the lady that takes orders or answers the phone. She has been that way forever, it could be a cultural thing or language barrier. She was very nice tonight, even wished me happy holidays. We have been getting their food for many years. We don’t go there for the service, but the food is usually really good with huge portions. I would say over the years there have been a small handful of times we disliked the food. I am very happy that our small town has a good food option like this. It beats the heck out of surrounding towns Chinese food. The picture was orange chicken on the top and chicken with garlic on the bottom. Came with a large container of white rice and we did get an order of cream...
