Went in at around 2pm, Thursday 8.31.23. I couldn't see very well, I was wating for new Glasses. The place only had, maybe 3 customers. The waitress was Very, Very, Very FRIENDLY. I told her I was walking by, and couldn't see very well. And I needed to get something too eat so my Blood Sugar wouldn't bottom out. Told her I couldn't see very well, and couldn't see the Booths. She guided me there. I already new what I wanted. A Beef Manhattan. She was VERY pleasant to me. The Food came in no time. And was very good. I told her I couldn't remember the last Time I had a really Good Manhattan. Now, this is why I only give 1 star. I had never been there before, remember, I couldn't see very well. A guy came past me, never saw him before, and didn't know who he was. Remember I couldn't see very well. He asked how I was. I'm ok. How are you? I asked him if he worked there. Very Snotty he said "Well I think they expect it." Then what I thought was the restroom, apparently was an office. Had no clue he was the owner. He comes back out. Looks at me, as he goes by me, I hear "HUMF" at me like I was trash. A few minutes later a white haired blurry women comes out of the room. Remember I couldn't see very well. Ask me how I was. Told her the Manhattan was well made . I think she smiled. She started telling me how they made it. Now remember, I had never been there before. I asked if she was an employee? Her tone of voice changed DRAMATICLY. like I had just spit in her face. We've only been here 34yrs. And walks away. So apparently she was the owners wife. When I was done, my total was like $10 something. I asked the waitress if she was related too anyone there. She said no. Then I told her why I asked her that. I handed her a $20 and told her too keep the change. She said No. I told her why she could keep it. I told her about the VERY RUDE OWNERS. that I just told you reading this right now about. I said You Keep that. Because You Earned it. You helped me, right when I came in the Door, You didn't even Hesitate, I really Appreciated that, You are and were VERY Kind too me. But the owners basically, looked down their noses at me. And the way she spoke too you, was Awful. So I won't be coming back. She said she was sorry for that. I said, don't Apologize for their Rudeness. You are a kind Hearted person. It's not your fault, it's theirs. The owners being so RUDE, Explains why the Place was so...
Read moreI was staying locally at the historic Rosemont Hotel and asked about where a local restaurant might be I could go and sit comfortably by myself. Jay, the hotel manager, recommended Pappa's just down the street. That night I was served by a very nice young man named Chris who was very diligent in asking me if I needed anything. I watched him being attentive to everyone in his section, and how friendly and accomodating he was to any request. The food was just right for me - I especially appreciated the quality and presentation of the items on the salad and soup bar. I had steak with the sweet potato fries that were cooked just perfectly. Noticing the sign on the table, I ordered a piece of the pecan pie to take with me to watch the Cubs game. I appreciated that Pappa's was supporting a local effort and donating the price of the pie to the local organization.
The next day I got a late start - blame it on the Cubs - as the game took 5 hours to play. So I headed back to Pappa's for what can best be called brunch - a delicious reuben sandwich and a wonderful cup of coffee. This time I was served by a very delightful young woman named Dorian. Her smile and welcoming conversation was like a bright ray of sunshine to greet the day. And of course, I had to have another piece of pie - apple this time.
Sitting by yourself you get a chance to observe what's going on around you. The staff of Pappa's always seemed to be smiling and attentive to their customers. If someone was busy, a colleague would help out and bring the order or someone would walk around refilling beverages. This is a very congenial and family-oriented environment which I encourage you to visit if you are in the area.
My only drawback to Pappa's is that I really wanted to have a breakfast type meal and avoid those %^#& chain restaurants, sadly, that's not part...
Read moreTL:DR at the bottom As my S/O and myself were walking in we were greeted by, I'm guessing, some stray dogs roaming the parking lot. Sure, no fault to the restaurant but definitely a precursor to what we had in store... We were sat rather quickly, and our drinks came just as quick. I noticed the music was unnecessary loud. The sweet tea was okay, but the sodas had some carbonation issues making them taste flat. We pushed on onto ordering, S/O got a medium rare steak with bake potatoe and green beans, I got the Mexican burger with fries. Oh, I also ordered a half order cheese curds. The food came out, frist thing I noticed was I had like 13 fries. I'm not sure you can call that a order of fries. S/O cut open her steak to find it basically medium well... Not med rare. Once our waitress came back she explained the issue and the steak was promptly taken back for one hopefully medium rare. We also remind her that we were missing our curds. As we waited for the steak we went ahead and ate, my burger was very lack luster. Nothing better to say. Basic. Her baked tator had foil actually inside of it from where they cut it open. The redemption steak came out and we cut into with the waitress next to us and found it was just well done. She called her manager and took it off our bill and brought us a full order of curds but charged us for a half. Shout out to Maddie. But overall. Not a good experience.
TL:DR Sat quickly, music was loud, soda was uncarbonated, Mexican burger was disappointing, only had 13 fries. Steak was wrong twice. Baked tator had foil actually inside from cutting. Probably won't...
