Uncle John's — Restaurant in Belvidere Township

This the type of restaurant you need to go to that is local Friendly only I went there with my family with kids the server didn't even bring us our drinks after we ordered them she stop coming by our table asking if we need anything or napkins and then she came by to take my daughter's plate and I said no no she still working on that and she mumbled under her breath okay whatever I don't care how rude are these people to people that they don't see everyday and then when I went to go pay I had tip money in my hand and she made a comment to another waitress is there even a tip on the table? You suck at serving us and then have the nerve to ask another employee right in front of me is there even money on the table I took that tip money I was planning on giving to her and I gave it to another waitress who went and got us our drinks earlier for her. Won't be coming back here the food wasn't even that great I ordered extra hash browns in my Skillet and the whole thing was potatoes no meat and when I asked my waitress about it and told her I was a little disappointed in the food she just looked at me and didn't say anything and I felt awkward and said okay forget it I'm hungry. On top of that the check she gave me she said the prices on the right would not match up to the total so they were wrong so she gave me some random price! 46 bucks wasnt worth it. this place will only treat you good if you're a local. I arrived ~11:15 on Nov 17, never been here before. The place was packed, I chose to go in & ask for a waiting time... Was told 10 min max, I said I have a guest with me & will return in 5 min - agreed. I returned 5 min later, was promptly seated and my guest arrived shortly thereafter. Uncle John's is advertised as being & laid out as a diner, their inside seating (booth / counter) is reasonable. This is where my opinion climaxes! I requested Chipotle steak skillet, was asked how do you want your steak (rare), eggs (sunny side), toast (rye). My Friend arrived shortly after myself, had reviewed this restaurant, he in fact recommended it. Neither he nor I have been here before. This is where I will boast about Uncle John's! My breakfast was spot on! No over cooked steak, sunny side eggs - great, the meal was phenomenal!!! Side note - I used to work in food service, was a cook, maintenance, & manager in food service. Came to this place for some brunch. It's a halfway point for some friends in Wisconsin, we met them from Chicago. As always, I judge a place based off their chicken fried steak and eggs. The gravy was a bit too sweet for my taste, but the consistency was great, some can be runny and this one was perfect. The steak wasn't thin and tender enough for just a fork, you needed that big steak knife. The only thing I didn't like about it were the hash browns. I'm not a big hash browns person, I always get country potatoes and this is the first place I've ever been told that they don't carry country potatoes :/ so that was weird. The service was great, always attentive to our drinks and needs, and that is what made up the difference for me.
