Café Durant — Restaurant in Berkeley

I lived in Berkeley for 3 years before I went to Cafe D, and man I was missing out! The location is pretty prime as it's right in the main food area of Durant, but as it is on the second floor, it's easier to miss the restaurant and choose one of its competitors. However, once you're inside and you've tried the food, you'll be hooked! Cafe D is usually fairly busy, but there are definitely off times when you can stop by and easily grab a table with friends. The style of the restaurant isn't like a Chipotle or Qdoba, they have predefined items on the menu and it's all made to order. Entrees arrive with chips to eat along with their selection of Salsas.

Cafe D does offer a good selection of beverages (alcoholic and otherwise), so there's something for everyone here. The patio outside is a nice spot to hang out as long as it's not too hot outside, as it allows students the rare opportunity of getting some sun in, between their periods of being bunkered in the libraries studying!

As far as food goes, I'd recommend the Pesto Burrito. I know, you're thinking what kind of a flavor combination is this? Let me tell you, it's the best kind! Unexpected, but perfect. Do NOT go here! The service is horrible, everyone who works there is rude. When we ordered FOR HERE at the kiosk they did not bring our food to us, they did not inform us that they did not have the drinks we wanted and ON TOP of that got our order wrong. When requesting a refund they were having technical difficulties and made me wait until the next to process INSTEAD of giving me a cash refund or trying to accommodate otherwise. They requested I come back after I left the restaurant to receive my refund which is highly unprofessional. And I still havent received my refund despite calling the next day to have it processed. Cafe Durant is a perfect hole in the wall for just about anyone. Whether you're a berkeley student, staff member, or visitor, this place is definitely worth the visit.

It's one step above Denny's, but I won't sugarcoat it and call it gourmet food. For the price you pay, you'll get a decent meal with larger portions than you'd imagine. I came in with absolutely no expectations and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of my meals. On my most recent visit I ordered the Sundeck Combo D for $7.50 and that included a strawberry banana crepe, 2 chocolate chip banana pancakes, a veggie omelette, and fruit salad.
