A Sad Cal Day Tale Very disheartening experience at Super Duper Burgers yesterday. I came in amidst a rush with a group of friends and ordered a burger and chocolate shake. We all sat at a table to await our orders – my friend brought me over my paper bag but, alas, only a burger was inside. I went to the counter to inquire about my missing shake. Evidently, the staff were quite overwhelmed by the number of people in the shop– and hastily informed me my friend had picked it up. I brought said friend over to explain that it was not him who had snagged this coveted chocolate shake. The staff dismissed our story and we elected not to bother them anymore and order a new one. My friend kindly bought me second chocolate shake – though made my ticket name “idiot” in reference to the fact I was fixated on this particular milkshake. He was not describing the staff of Super Duper, but rather thought it would be amusing if I came to the counter and claimed my name as “idiot.” Moments later, I received a text from the restaurant that my order was ready. I again trekked to the counter and one of the staff members – a woman I had spoken to before – said she had something for me. She left and came back with a hefty security guard and told him to escort my out of the establishment. Outside, he explained he was just following orders and conceded that I was not acting “plastered.” Neither of my orders were refunded – and I finished my burger on the curb as my friend tried to talk to the management to understand what had occurred. To him – they claimed I was drunk and calling them inappropriate names. The former part was true – I was drunk – but not to the extent where I would ever conduct myself in a disrespectful matter, particularly towards the staff of hectic restaurant. Intoxicated or not, it is not in my nature to act belligerently towards strangers. All I wanted was a chocolate shake – instead, I spent 15 dollars on nothing but the erroneous marring of...
Read moreA Bay Area fast food chain that definitely lives up to its name -- The burgers are totally super duper! Each burger is carefully crafted with some of the juiciest and tender beef patties, crisp lettuce, fresh tomatoes, and tasty Super Sauce. The classic French fries is also soft and fresh out of the fryer, coated with the just right amount of salt. But if you're looking for the upgrade, the garlic fries is the way to go, with the additional punch of garlicky taste with a bit of cilantro and cheese to bring out the flavor. The flavor is without a doubt on-point and deserves every bit of praise.
My only (small) gripe that I have with this joint is that some of their items are quite expensive. After all, good quality warrants a hefty price, but this is a fast food restaurant that you want to limit yourself from indulging frequently unless somehow you're Jeff Bezos. However, if you're craving a high quality burger that isn't from McDonald's or any other super common chains around the Bay Area, give Super Duper Burgers a try and you'll find yourself...
Read moreI used to love going to this place. The beef burger, the fried chicken sandwich, and the vegan burger are all of very high quality. They pair well with the homemade pickles. For the beef burger, I suggest getting a double patty with grilled onions, extra tomato, and extra lettuce. For the vegan burger, I strongly suggest getting extra humus. The seasonal burger is also often worth checking out depending on the time of year.
But lately, local homeless people have been sitting in the restaurant and asking me to offer them my burgers. I'm not sure when it started, but it has become a pattern. They'll start insisting and telling me about their situation, and when I politely decline, I'll get scoffed at. The first time this happened, I gave them my vegan burger, and they spat it out and threw it away. While I'm sympathetic to their plight, I don't think it's my personal duty to give up eating dinner to rectify that which is a systemic issue. It has made it difficult to eat and enjoy myself at this establishment. I don't see myself returning here in the...
