For a brand new hotel, this place is falling apart. I'll list the issues below but the most disappointing part is I reported it the next morning and all I got was "sorry". There was no offer to fix the issues, change rooms or follow up. I reported the issues again at check out and the front desk said the manager would call me at 2:00 pm and now two days later still no call. I appreciate the fact the owner responds on Google to these reviews but doesn't really do anything about the issues.
The issues were a completely loose bathroom sink faucet, you have to hold the faucet with one hand and turn on the faucet with the other hand to keep it from flopping around. The bathroom light switch had a broken cover, pretty sure this is a building code violation too. The phone in the room does not work so you can't call the front desk, pretty convenient for them. The bathroom barn door rail was broken so you can't even close the bathroom door, fine if you are alone but not great with a family. AC controls don't work so you can't adjust the temperature of the room. There is a noise that comes from the bathroom that is so loud, that it sounds like the upstairs shower is literally running all the time. I think it's the air vent but that's what it sounds like. The elevator floors and tile to the study hall are so dirty with footprints and it is actually sticky to walk on. Service at the rooftop bar is horrible. We ordered drinks and appetizers. Appetizers came, no drinks. We ordered a second appetizer and still no drinks. We asked the waiter and he said the bar was backed up. It was a lie, we saw another table sit and get their drinks that came in ten minutes after us. Just be honest and say you forgot to put in our order. Parking is super expensive, and so is anything from their market. That is probably why no prices are listed on anything. You just get a surprise at check out.
The location is great and the breakfast is good but I was really hoping the manager would reach out and at least explain or apologize for doing so many things wrong. Just know if you stay here, you will be very disappointed. They have a gem but letting it fall apart, I really hope the actual owners read this and address the issues with the management team. I wish this review would let me post the pictures and...
Read moreI had an extremely disappointing experience with the valet services at The Residence Inn – Berkeley during our stay in late October when we came to watch the Cal football game. While the hotel itself was fine, the valet service was a nightmare. When we picked up our car upon departure, the valet had parked it haphazardly and rushed us off without any care or professionalism.
Two hours later, we stopped to charge the car and noticed two massive gouges on the passenger-side rim, still coated with cement residue. It was obvious the damage happened under their care. I immediately called the hotel but was told the valet manager wasn’t available. Over the next several weeks, I called repeatedly, leaving messages for the valet manager, the front desk, and even the general manager. No one bothered to call me back until mid-November, when the valet manager left a single voicemail saying they would open a claim.
Despite this, I heard nothing else. After being ignored for weeks, I had to escalate the issue to Marriott customer service, who finally pushed the valet service, Towne Park, to open a formal claim. But even after all this effort, Towne Park denied my claim, claiming their valets weren’t at fault. This is completely unacceptable, as the damage occurred while the car was in their possession, and the cement residue was clear evidence. This is a brand-new car that had been spotless before our trip. Adding to my frustration, the rim they damaged costs over $1,000 to replace—this isn’t a minor issue, and I wouldn’t be nearly as upset if it were.
The lack of accountability and abysmal communication made this experience infuriating. Besides that single voicemail, no one returned my calls despite my repeated requests for a phone conversation. This was by far the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered.
I will never stay at this hotel again, and I’ll make sure to warn anyone who is thinking of staying there. If you care about your vehicle, avoid this valet service...
Read moreI’ve travelled around the world and this was a first. ||When we went to check out it was an HOUR wait to get our car out of valet. To be exact, we requested the car at 10:25 am and got it at 11:13 am. We had requested the car from the room via text, came downstairs and saw a huge crowd. Two valets running around stressed. They were not the problem except that they had a computer list and a paper list simultaneously going. I went to the front desk and nicely told a female something needed to be done. She said “we had no way of knowing.” Ok so you are charging us all $50 a night for parking (which is already too high) and you know who is checking out and when checkout time is. Not a good response. I asked if we could get our own car - no. I asked if anyone could help these guys. She called a valet manager. No one came. Eventually they added a guy from behind the desk to the valet crew. After others informed her they had been waiting an hour, the same woman came out and wrote down names and room numbers and how long we had been waiting. 100% this helped but why did it take so long for someone to organize this? The front desk could see all these people standing in the hot sun. Why didn’t they let people sit somewhere? Call us when ready? Tell us not to check out yet? ||I was told “some people” might get compensation? I’m waiting. I think $50 back at the very least. People had appointments, planes to catch, and like us, a long drive ahead which was made even longer by traffic due to our delayed departure.||My first plan was to email the manager directly but since I couldn’t find his contact info anywhere, maybe he will see this and improve the situation for others.||I’ve stayed at the Residence Inn Berkeley a few times and overall it’s a good place. Clean, nice breakfast, study hall lounge is nice. This valet experience really affected my opinion of the...
