I was hopeful based on the high ratings here, which set my expectations high. I was rather disappointed in the overall quality of the food, especially since their prices are higher than other Japanese restaurants I’ve been to recently. Their Dragon Roll is $6 more than it is at another restaurant we prefer in Albany, and the price of their nigiri sushi is higher too. The small gyoza weren’t very hot and didn’t have the best texture, the unagi sauce was a bit too sweet, the tamago looked like a piece of plastic, and the himachi on the nigiri sushi was sliced paper thin. Also the tea was tepid, which always annoys me, and there were a few overcooked grains of rice in the sushi, which is unacceptable. The standard miso soup normally served first was hot, but it came out after the appetizer and main course. Otherwise our server was pleasant and attentive. With so many better sushi restaurants in the East Bay to choose from, I would not return to this one. The menu is relatively small, so if you like a lot of different choices, this isn’t the place...
Read moreA coworker highly recommended Nikko. She couldn't have been more wrong. Service was good, not great. The hot tea I ordered was not even warm, didn't taste good either. The chicken karaage appetizer was very disappointing. They use VERY fatty small pieces of chicken thigh meat. The chicken was extremely chewy with a texture like rubber. No real flavor other than salty. The karaage does not come with any dipping sauce or fresh lemon. Hamachi Lover Roll and Orange Blossom roll both did not taste fresh at all. Price before tip was $51.65. That is a big price for really low quality food. Would I eat here again?...
Read moreGreat Sushi (high quality fish and plenty of good rolls) but had terrible service the last time I went. To the waitress who clearly doesn’t know what she’s doing: I can’t believe I have to explain this to you but do try your best not to be blatantly rude to and actually argue with your customers over being asked for two extra glasses so I can share my wine with my friends (who BOTH showed you their IDs). You’re in a service industry. It’s literally your job to be patient with your customers. I don’t care if you disagree with me. At least do the bare minimum required of your job, which is to...
