We walked into a nicely decorated barbecue place on Cordell Avenue in Bethesda- first time never even heard of it before and apparently it's been there 5 years. I like barbecue I like reasonably priced delicious barbecue. This could be the place near home, how did I miss hearing about this place thank goodness for Google. We had a complete meal and everything was really good I recommend going here for dinner on one of those days when you really want barbecue or if you can't decide what to eat try this place. I'm told they deliver. 2. Here's my in-depth review we really enjoyed our meal and I'll try to attach the pictures The onion rings were cooked perfectly, when you bite through it you bite through it including the onion. Oh by the way they taste really good too. Pulled pork was was so good that I almost couldn't stop eating my pork sandwiches to take a drink. I literally had to think about putting my sandwich down to get a drink and stop myself from just consuming this terrific barbecue sandwich. At this point I also had a chance to try the side of slaw that comes with everything I'm told. Different and tasty and certainly the chef's owned seasonings in this slaw. The sandwich was so good I had to try the ribs. Oh my God so meaty maybe the meatiest I've had. Very nice house flavor barbecue sauce tops the ribs. They're also bottles of the sweeter sauce and hot sauce that you choose between when you order your ribs. I got the scalloped potatoes as my side. A mistake, I personally do not consider really nice mashed potatoes with cheese melted across the top of them in their bowl scalloped potatoes. They were mashed potatoes with skins with cheese on top. My dining partner wisely chose the waffle sweet potatoe fries. They stayed hot at the plate unlike usual sweet potato fries. These waffle sweet potato fries State hot the entire time they were cooked really well and that have wonderfully fresh...
Read moreThe man at the bar is very friendly. They have an allergen menu for Dairy, Gluten, Vegan, and some other popular concerns, which was produced as soon as I mentioned food restrictions.
Food: I'll do my best to post the pictures (I'm not seeing an option at the moment). I got the brisket, the ribs, and the onion rings. The portions aren't large by BBQ standards, but they are filling. The brisket was flavorful and tender. The ribs were small. The sauces are the same except one has a hint of spice. Both ketchup based. Nothing impressive, so it's good that the brisket has enough flavor that the sauce isn't really necessary. The onion rings were good, too. Crispy outside and flavorful inside.
I did finish all of the meats I bought, which is a sign of good food. If I was more of a local, I imagine I'd be back for the friendship as much as the food, as the locals are quite friendly and upbeat, but are also willing to let you do you.
Beverages: Most drinks here are by the bottle or by the can. The range is good, going from popular drinks like Water, Dr. Pepper, Coke, Mountain Dew, etc., to craft beers. Plus there's a bar.
Atmosphere: This place is reminiscent of a local dive bar in a good way. When I came in, everyone coming in after me, knew each other. Due to its location in downtown Bethesda, the property is rather small, but it still has 4 tables (technically 7 sections that seat 2 people each, with bar stool or chair seating options) and at least 5 seats at the bar. There's a hand-wash station conveniently located at the opposite end of the bar. During my visit, the music playing was Queen, Matchbox 20, Elton John, Billy Joel, Simon & Garfunkel, etc.
Price: The price is about the same as the prices for 2 Fifty (2-Fifty is the highest quality BBQ in the area). I can see how this price might affect people's ratings. A 2-meat platter with mandatory side, plus a can of Dr. Pepper at Smoke...
Read moreI had been wanting to try this place. I ended up accidently walking by it this afternoon on my way to somewhere else, so on my way back to my car, I decided to stop in and check it out. I went in and it was a basic kind of BBQ spot. Menu hanging on the wall and some tables. The place seemed cool and looked clean. If I wasn't in a rush to get somewhere, I would've eaten in. I went up to the register and asked if they had the brisket and the guy said yes. Guy told me they sold it by the sandwich or platter or 1/2 pound. I ordered a pound of brisket to take home to the family. He asked about which BBQ sauce I wanted and offered the House (sweet and tangy), Spicy or NC-style. I got the House and it was very tasty. After a short wait, he brought out a bag with the brisket and the sauce. The brisket container was double bagged which was appreciated and my kid could tell the brisket was hot as he was carrying the bag. The family loved the brisket when I got it home. I thought it was cooked great. I've tried to smoke briskets and it isn't easy. I wish mine came out as good as this. A pound of brisket went quickly between 3 people and they gave us enough sauce so that everyone had plenty. I'd def come back and get the brisket again and I'll prob be adding some sides next time. Besides the brisket, we got a Mexican Coke, a Brisk Iced Tea and my kid got a package of Pop Rocks candy. They also sell beer which I...
