I gave the Montana Club 3 stars mostly for the staff. Our server was cool to my kids and did a good job of keeping our drinks filled and table cleared of dishes. We went for the Easter (2018) brunch and I really couldn't have been much more disappointed. It was very overpriced for what it was, costing me over $60 for just myself and 2 kids. The food setup seemed slap-dash as it's not something the restaurant does very often. They basically just ran two rows of two or three tables end to end, covered them with table cloths and set chaffing dishes and a couple of other containment vessles on them and it all just seemed very amateurish. It has been my experience with these types of buffets that there is a carving station with a roast of beef, prime rib, turkey, ham and often leg of lamb. Montana Club had a tired looking, almost canned-like ham and an equally tired looking piece of very fatty prime rib that the "chef" was more hacking apart than carving. Next to him was a person who was making these sad little omelets with only a couple of choices of fillings being ham and cheese, Denver or vegetarian. They also hyped up their "various house made sauces" that turned out to be hollandaise that the only house made about it was that someone mixed the package it came in with water. The other sauce was something I can't even quite remember exactly what it was, that's how memorable it was, but I think it was supposed to be for the ham, which really needed something as it was just about as tough as my boots. They had eggs on the buffet that were scrambled but I've seen eggs served in Navy chow halls that looked better. The bacon they put out was obviously cooked in large quantities in an oven, which I get, but it was either overcooked or under and either way was not allowed to drain well so if you weren't lucky enough to get some from the top of the pile, what was left was swimming in grease. They had a pretty good link sausage but it was pretty spicy, something that was not mentioned in the description or by the staff so people were complaining and it even caught me by surprise and I like spicy stuff. The potatoes were cold and on and on. It was just not a well executed buffet and as I mentioned was totally overpriced for what it was and after waiting a little over an hour for a seat and having a mediocre meal at best, we found out that the Rib and Chop House across the street had a shorter wait and better food for less money. I guess you live and learn and I certainly learned not to go to the Montana Club for Easter or any...
Read moreNormally I wouldn't write this long of a review but I feel this particular experience warrants it. We went to the Montana club to celebrate a Birthday dinner recently. We ordered an appetizer and three entrees. Shortly thereafter we notified the waitress of the birthday since they offer a discount for the person celebrating a birthday. We were assured that the appropriate discount would be applied to their meal. Our side salads and appetizer came first and overall were decent. We had ordered the BBQ chicken flatbread as the appetizer and it was decent overall, it really didn't have a strong flavor and was a little bland but quite edible. I'd like to say I tried all three dishes and agree with my companions' opinions. These entrees on the other hand were mostly horrid. This first one was a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and bacon gravy. Where to start, the mashed potatoes tasted very very strongly of garlic and were burnt. The chicken fried steak was just over the edge of burnt and the gravy was disgusting. The next dish was the philly cheese steak with fries and it was awful. First and foremost the philly caused a minor allergic reaction for the recipient. She has a few food allergies including mustard which is her best guess as to what caused it. She tries to be very careful about what she orders because of these allergies and from the description felt the Philly cheese steak was safe. Anyhow, the sandwich was super soggy on the bottom and covered in mozzarella and queso cheese. The queso had a very odd flavor and was probably the source of the allergic reaction. Then the fries that came with the philly cheese steak were room temperature, seasoned with something like a taco seasoning that was still bland. The last dish which was mine was the Cashew Chicken Stir Fry which I can at least say was the best dish of the evening. It had a good flavor and a mix of textures that I enjoyed. One good dish was not enough to save this birthday dinner, so we decided to skip dessert and went to pay our bill. Wouldn't you know they didn't apply the discount on the birthday dish before charging our credit card. Now we have to wait several days to be refunded on a meal that wasn't good for most of us. Overall it was bad service with bad food. Our waitress could have cared less about our table or our situation at the end. I would implore anyone reading this to think twice about...
Read moreThe food was ok. I had the Prime Grade Cowboy Sirloin. From the placement on the menu, I assume its a signature dish. Prime Grade Cowboy Sirloin Our ultra tender Cap Steak Sirloin is aged 45 days and is served with our Custom Cowboy Butter, Peppers, Onions, Mushrooms and crisp Skinny Rings on a grilled Tortilla. I ordered it Medium rare it came out Medium to Medium Well, there was 1 small strip of green bell pepper, some over cooked slimy onions, no mushrooms and those Skinny Rings were store bought Durkees Fried onions you put on green bean casserole. The Custom Cowboy Butter was broken, separated, and barely covered the bottom of the small black ramekin they gave me. The steak was placed on a grilled tortilla for some reason. It didn't add anything to the meal and was totally out of place. I added a side of crab legs. Regardless of what the server told us, they were NOT fresh! They were so small to begin with. They gave us crab crackers, but the crab shell was so soft they were useless. When I was finally able to get to the meat, I found that it only extended to about half of the leg, and the meat was dry and tasteless. I had a side of French fries and they were fantastic. I wish I had just ordered a plate of those they were so good. Now, the dollop of ketchup that came with them...come on guys. A decent amount of ketchup does not hurt your bottom line. The ridiculousness of giving such a small amount should embarrass you. 😳 Our waitress while very nice was slammed busy. She could barely keep up so we decided not to bother for anything like a refill on our drinks. We thought we would ask the manager but the person who was pointed out as the manager couldn't have been. The guy had on black jeans and an untucked shirt, kind of sloppy looking so we didn't bother. Now our experience might have just been a fluke. I say this as the place was packed! We had to wait 20 minutes for a table. They were supposed to text us when they were ready for us but never did. So, we only got sat after I pointed out others were being sat before us when they came in much later. One redeeming fact about the place was I got 53% off because it was my birthday and your age is your discount. So, thank you MT Grill! We'll have to think about whether or not we'll...
