Overview: Great little local bread and pastry shop. Good people. Highly recommended.
Food: Good "banh mi" (Vietnamese sandwiches). Banh mi is basically what you would come here for. There is a long line during lunch time. Many people come here to buy the plain loaves of bread freshly baked in the dozens, which blew my mind. They also have "banh bao" (pork buns) which are decent but on the small size. The yuca coconut cake is phenomenal. I have not tried the other pastries. I do need to come back for more yuca coconut cakes!
Service: The staff was very friendly and pleasant. If you know Vietnamese, you CAN order in Vietnamese. Although the cashier is a white girl, she can understand Vietnamese just fine, which is very commendable. Then when the food was done, an elderly Vietnamese lady came out and gave us our food, while guessing the hour when my child was born based on his hair whorls. There is no dine-in option when I was there. I think there used to be an area for that but COVID is tough on everyone during those months.
Public service: Apparently the shop owner was recognized for providing great service to the community during the 2017 Hurricane Katrina. I think this little shop is a national treasure because of the good people...
Read moreI do not have enough positive words for Le Bakery! Coming from a bakery in Cincinnati, I was very excited to try this place while vacationing in the gulf coast, and it did not disappoint. Every item we purchased far exceeded expectations. And the prices were very humble for the quality of their products.
We got a loaf of French bread and jalapeño cheddar which were both fantastic. The crumb and texture was excellent, and the crust formed was perfect for what each item should be.
Our pastries were also superb. I got a coconut and yuca pie which reminded me of a Filipino dessert (bibingka) my family would make. I also had an apple and cream cheese danish which had tender and flaky dough, a sweet drizzle of icing, and ample filling to satisfy my breakfast cravings. My husband got a blueberry turnover , but it was gone before I could even ask for a taste!
Finally the butter croissant. Oh. My. Gawd. Perfection. Flaky thin layers with loads of butter flavor throughout the entire croissant. It had been baked just long enough to give it fantastic color and characteristic flavor in the crust, and yet the insides were still melt-in-your-mouth tender. One of THE BEST I’ve...
Read moreWent today to get a King cake at the recommendation from a local. We got there and the woman from the back barated us for not putting in an order. Essentially laughed in our face and let us know how many stacks of orders she has. We are not local and had no idea the significance of a King cake. She then said our only option would be first come first serve the next day but she was so nasty annd rude about getting in line and waiting. The sweet check out gal was giving us tips on getting the kind we were requesting, and this “lady” comes back out making sure we knew she was not making any extra. It was so bad when we left the customer in front of us said “they were rough on yall about the cakes”. What an asshole, being nice is free. Keep your cake. I’m sorry this is your season and you’re busy. I would think you would be thankful. The check out gal was kind and informative and the apple turnovers were amazing. What...
