Since I was a kid, my family has come up to visit the Birchwood area annually for years and we always enjoyed coming to this cafe. It was nostalgic and used to be enjoyable and we wanted to start bringing our children here. After our experience this past Friday, we will NEVER be coming back. The wait staff was short, rude and lacked any quality of customer service. Apron Betsey in particular was incredibly unprofessional and scolded my 3 year old child shouting "Hey!" at him multiple times for picking up the salt/pepper shaker after my husband politely asked her not to the first time she yelled. Betsey then proceeded to make comments on how some "parenting was needed". We literally sat down 5 minutes before this happened, hadn't even ordered yet and weren't being disruptive. I have never experienced anything like this at any other restaurant I've been to. We've noticed this cafe lacks the ability to welcome/adapt to different types of people or visitors that pass through the area who come in, and that they are only used to their regular older customers. If you have a children's menu that implies you are a "kid friendly" environment. The behavior of Apron Betsey did not display that one bit. My child wasn't doing anything wrong and even if he was, it isn't the responsibility of the wait staff to "take care of it".
If you have young kids or grandkids and are visiting the area, I suggest you don't go to Birchwood Cafe. They won't welcome you with open arms-...

Service was great very friendly and always with a smile. Food was ok what you would expect from a small town Cafe. Prices are low for portion size. My knock with the food was the sausage gravy which was flat/under seasoned and the over easy egg was broken and yolk was all but non existent. Sour dough toast was good and the hash browns were cooked perfectly.
The second time I visited I ordered the bluegill hash browns . Underwhelming at best cut up sausage links, under done green peppers and onions with fake American cheese slices on top with an egg. Sourdough toast was good but other than that it was not done well. This was something you'd put together when you were cooking for your parents as a kid.
When you have a sign saying almost world famous hash browns and you serve this you should be required to take that sign down...
ย ย ย Read moreMy husband and I stopped by for breakfast on Saturday morning, and both of us were so impressed with the breakfast. My husband had the Fisherman's special and I had the veggie specialty hash browns with a side of bacon, both were really delicious! It has been hit and miss with previous owners but if the current breakfast is anything to go by, it's back to being the tastiest breakfast place around- just like it used to be! Our waitress with the excellent eye makeup and dark hair was lovely too (I didn't get her name, sorry) very attentive and helpful. We...
