The product itself deserves four stars - locally roasted coffee is hard to come by and Reading Coffee Roasters offers just that. However, the customer service falls closer to two stars. It's hard to choose a good coffee for your taste when the staff refuses to help you by simply telling you what the general profile of the different coffees are.
It started a few months ago when I went in for the first time to check it out. The staff member working was unpleasant, very short when answering questions, and showed little interest in talking about the coffees they sell. I shook it off as a rough day, bought a pound of coffee and went on my way.
I just stopped in today hoping for a better experience, but had no such luck. The same staff member was clearly disgruntled to see a customer. When I asked what the difference in flavor was between two coffees they sold, she quickly snapped back that one of the coffees was out of stock so she couldn't tell me anyway. When I asked about another coffee clearly listed on their daily menu, she said it was out of stock and they only had what was on the menu... where I found it. Eventually she looked across the room and found it in stock.
Overall, if you can get past the lack of customer service or catch them on a better day, the coffee itself tastes good. Part of experiencing good coffee, though, is knowing the background and profile of the roast. If you want to know those things and learn about the coffee,...
Read moreEdited post-repsone: The company didn't respond to my emails until days after our fundraiser was supposed to start. At no point before agreeing to work with us did they say they were too busy opening another store. In fact, Alex said he would prepare our forms and get them to me THAT AFTERNOON (Oct 27- the fundriser was supposed to start on Nov 5). The agreement said a minimum of 24 items, split between both ground coffee and kcups. Our form clearly said we expected to sell at least 40 items (20 bags of ground coffee and 20 boxes of Kcups), and again, at no point did anyone say we weren't meeting the minimum ( because we did). I will happily resend the form to the company or post a picture of the form here to clear up any confusion for the owners.
Lastly, this review was posted before the owners ever reached out, so the idea that this review is "dragging" a company despite the apology is false. There was no apology or attempt to help before I posted this review. The only communication came AFTER I posted this review.
We tried to work with this company on a fundraiser for our students to sell coffee before the Christmas holiday, and after we sent in all the materials, they ghosted us and never sent us our forms so that we could start. I reached out 3 times and receieved no response. This is the second year that I've tried to work with this company...
Read moreDon't waste your time! For 10 years we spent $100's of dollars a year buying Reading Roasters coffee. Long before there was ever a cafe. We were excited to watch the slow progress as the Cafe was constructed and finally opened. This morning I had my first opportunity to visit the completed Cafe. The experience was horrible! Two young poorly trained batistas took my order. I asked for honey with my tea and a little ice in the hot tea. I was told they don't have honey. Which I know isn't true because I have bought honey there many times. When I brought that to their attention they refused to do anything and became rude. She also refused to put ice in my tea! The prices are very steep but the terrible service was unnecessary. So, you have lost a 10+ year customer. I won't be buying our ground beans for home there anymore. Clearly, the Cafe is a distraction from your...
