This review is for the restaurant. Ordered chicken fried steak and an omelet for pickup at ~8a on a Sunday via their online option which I’d done plenty of times before. No customers were in the restaurant when my husband got there to pick up the order at the designated time but the obnoxiously rude supervisor on duty claimed that online orders “never” get printed out, and then proceeded to argue with my husband and then her entire staff instead of just taking accountability and saying that they’d start on it for us. The cook had to intervene with this supervisor from over by where he was standing and claimed he could make our entire order (which included ‘crispy’ hashbrowns and over hard eggs) in 3 min. They rushed our order, we took it home, and it was completely inedible. Temping the chicken fried steak’s internal temp it was at 100 degrees, the hashbrowns still looked raw, and the eggs were so over easy that they almost looked raw as well. I don’t know that the hashbrowns have ever been anything but raw when we’ve ordered pickup from there in past, but I’ve overlooked it for one reason or another. We called to ask for a refund (the first time we’ve ever done this even tho we’ve had consistently bad food experiences from them throughout this year) and they said they couldn’t provide us one unless we came back in person. We came back in person, and the rude supervisor on duty (who was still yelling at anyone who would listen to her yell for the sake of yelling BEFORE she realized we were standing there) had more stipulations for us she hadn’t communicated over the phone that were suddenly needed for a refund. After I pushed back she had a server take down my number for their manager named Kim to call us back as she was the only one who had credentials to give us a refund according to the people working there. Kim ghosted us. I hate writing bad reviews especially for a local business since I grew up in this town. But from one local to anyone reading this, go somewhere else for better service and better food. I’m also writing this review as this last incident was the straw that broke the camel’s back because like I said they’ve consistently provided sub par to go orders in past, and the last time we ate their for dinner when my dad was visiting I got food poisoning from one of their pasta dishes (the temp was suspiciously not hot when it was set down in front of me at the table). So many other brunch places nearby go somewhere that has a lower likelihood of giving you food poisoning, and treats their...
Read moreI was introduced to this place by the members of a car club to which I belong. The first time I ate here, I was impressed by the food. It was generous in proportion, tasty and served by nice people. I had read about their baked goods so I took a couple of boxes home to the family.
I liked their food so much that I drove 45 minutes the next morning to bring my family so that they could experience the food at Black Diamond.
This rating should be 5 starts and I will say that it is at 4.5 right now. The only issues that I had are: 1. We stood waiting to be seated for some time before we were noticed and addressed. 2. There seems to be a hierarchy where only some staff are allowed to take your orders, which is fine. The only thing is that we couldn't tell who belonged to which group.
In my book small things, but I have to be honest.
Now, the good stuff. The staff are generally friendly, smiling and BUSY! Our timing was perfect when we went but I could easily see a wait for a table if you came at the wrong time. And why would that happen? because the food is amazing! Simply amazing.
Two days in a row I had the hearty breakfast two eggs, a large sausage patty, potatoes and two biscuits with sausage gravy! Are you kidding me? All breakfasts come with a half a peach in syrup and a small muffin. And everything was so good, I ate it all!
My dining companions had the eggs benedict and an omelet that was as big as the large plate it came in. And someone had the chicken fried steak, which I will have next time. Everyone had nothing but compliments on the food. I understand that most of their items are made from scratch onsite. Oh, you HAVE to try the bacon. This is how bacon SHOULD be.
Of course, after all that food, we had to ask for boxes. And still had to stop by the bakery to take items home. If I were to recommend a few items to go, they would be the eclairs, the cherry danish AND the and lemon danish, the cinnamon rolls (still have half a dozen apple ones frozen in case of emergencies) and the XL chocolate chip cookies! Truth be told, I would also recommend wearing sweatpants so that you can loosen the drawstrings after the meal!
Best of all, they serve breakfast until 2 pm! Writing all this down has made me want to go down there again! Hmmmm, now when...
Read moreMy mom and I were in Washington to visit family so we decided to sight see a bit. We found a review saying the view of Mount Rainier was exquisite from the Black Diamond Restaurant so we thought we'd give it a go. I included a picture of what Mount Rainier looks like from the window view of the restaurant.
We arrived after lunch-rush hour, about 2:30 pm, so the restaurant was nearly empty. We were served by Steven who seemed a bit shy at first but turned out to be very warm and friendly. I ordered the Diamond Club sandwich and my mother ordered the Reuben. The Reuben was different as we aren't used to horseradish or mayo being served with it but it was surprisingly very good! My mom also ordered sweet potato fries.
The Club sandwich was huge. I was very pleased to see that the meat was real turkey and not just lunch meat turkey and the lettuce was bushy, green, fresh lettuce. I was keeping low expectations as the sandwich had guacamole, and I'm the biggest fan, but I ended up liking it. The guacamole was different and ended up tasting amazing. I ordered regular fries(also different than others and also delicious).
The food was filling(I ended up taking half my sandwich to go)but not too filling to the point where you feel sick, which I get a lot in other restaurants due to food, or especially, when I'm bored and eat too fast. It's much harder to get bored when you have an amazing view to keep you entertained. Scenic views are so much more thrilling than having a television!
Afterwards, we went to the bakery area and ordered a Mocha Breve', a Russian Pretzel, and two eclairs. I'm a bit of a coffee freak and let's just say I WILL be coming back just for the coffee if I can't stay for longer than a couple minutes.
Overall: The service was fantastic, when we arrived we told our waiter that we came due to the review on the view but the mountain had been clouded up. Half an hour later he took his time to remind us that the clouds had dispersed. I also saw the staff members having a group meeting which shows how involved and dedicated everyone is.
The food is spectacular. Good quality for a decent price, truly amazing. Will definitely be coming back as soon as I find an excuse to fly out...
