I stopped in on Saturday, June 14th. Apparently some dude named Jason had a birthday the day before. There was a mannequin, life-size poster and even tee-shirts with him for sale. Apparently he was some sort of hockey goalie with poor hygiene skills. I have googled all NHL players from past to present, but have found nothing on him. Either way, it's good to see a community come together and pay homage to a hometown hero. Bless him whoever he is.
I looked at the menu and to my delight there was something I've never seen before, the summer camp omelette. Kind of an odd choice for a food dish name, but who am I to judge? I gave it a try and now hope it catches on nationwide. Every diner across America should no doubt have this and "Jason's Omelette" on their menu. In fact, I am pretty insulted other diners don't.
There were a lot of people with cameras and video recorders. This guys birthday was such a big deal that it carried on all weekend. Things looked like they got a little out of control the day before as there was blood splatter on numerous spots of the restaurant and even the bathroom. Birthday parties at diners can get very out of hand and we've all been there, so I won't hold that against them.
I recommend this place for the good food, local heros, birthday dinners and small town charm. I am dropping my teen kids off to a Crystal Lake up the road as they will be first time camp counselors! It was great to have one final meal with them before sending them off and wishing them the best of...
Read moreAlright, time to write a review. I've now lived in Blairstown for 5 years. I've tried so hard to support the local businesses, including this one. The food is okay at best, and that's when I don't find a hair in it. Maybe it's my fault that I keep going back, but I've now found a hair in my food a total of 4 separate occasions. It's honestly disgusting.
Pricing? Forget about it. Get ready to take out another mortgage. $17 for Chicken Fingers and Fries. That's it. You get 4 tenders and some soggy fries, with a side of beard hair. The chicken tenders are good, the soggy fries weren't up to my dogs standards (which are very low). $18 for a patty melt, which was absolutely loaded with grease.
This place is cool to sit in. The owner is always there, which is nice. The wait staff are always super friendly. I brought up the fact that a patty melt and chicken fingers rang up to $38. They change their prices often, and they never go down. For the amount of food you get, the prices do not match. The quality of the food does not match the price either.
They wonder why they lose business - it's the prices. The waitress even apologized for the price, stating that she knows it's expensive for what you're getting. I'm not looking for cheap, but I don't think I'll be going back...
Read moreBeware of ordering a meal on a Friday the 13th (and maybe other days too). If you really want to see the inside, order a coffee or a milk shake, and then go somewhere else for food. On a Friday the 13th, they serve from a very limited menu with inflated prices. I ordered the Summer Camp Chicken Sandwich, but that's not what the kitchen gave me. They gave me a beef burger (the server DID write it down correctly on the order slip). I opted to eat it anyway and found it was not thoroughly cooked. According to the menu, the meal was supposed to include coleslaw, but it did not. I don't think this was a mistake. Just false advertising. So $22 for an undercooked burger with "Jason Slicers," which are basically potato chips. My cup of hot tea was $3.50. Though the meal was "finger food," I was not given any napkins. Could have asked for some, but my meal probably would have been cold by the time I got them.
A final warning: they close the indoor restrooms on Friday the 13th and instead have 2 port-a-potties in the parking lot. Given the mobs of tourists, this is somewhat understandable. However, if a Friday the 13th occurs in December, it sure is unpleasant to be using an outdoor toilet. Try unwrapping a new roll of toilet paper in the bitter cold and total...
