Up until December of 2023, we would always give Bill's perfect ratings across the board, but everything changed for us on my husband's birthday on December 15. If you are wondering why it took so long for me to write about this, it's because I had PTSD for several months, including trouble sleeping and anxity attacks. If you consider me to be overly dramatic, please read entire story before you decide. For the previous 5-6 years We had been coming to Bill's at least twice per week. We had reserved our usual table for a very early dinner several weeks prior to my husband's birthday. When we arrived, our table was occupied. When my husband asked about our reservations, the hostess told us someone else had reservations. We found this unusual, especially because we double check our reservations every week. So after being seated at a different table, we assumed the management decided to give our table away. But as time passed, staff members whom we were familiar with, came up and apologized, stating that the party sitting at our table, had just got up from their original table and commandeered ours without asking. Unfortunately, no one on their management staff thought to intervene. This greatly disappointed us, but we were willing to let it go. However, the universe had other plans for us!

After ordering and enjoying our drinks, the very rude and entitled woman who had stole our table proceeded to get up and start yelling and pounding on our table. She said she had very good hearing and could hear us complaining. She told us she personally knew Bill (owner) and could buy "our table" if she wanted to. During this very public display no management intervened on our behalf.

Our food arrived soon after, and I was shaking while I ate. We quickly asked for a to go box and ordered our coffee and my husband's dessert to go. I had to leave the restaurant before they brought everything to the table because I was ready to start crying and didn't want to give the horrid woman the satisfaction. Although non management staff showed their concern, I was shocked that at no time did management try to make amends to us. No free coffee or dessert, no discount, no consequences to the rude folks who continue to come back almost daily to continue their reign of terror.

We have only come back maybe once per month since this incident because we still like to see our favorite staff. Jane, the bartender, nicely and graciously paid for our meal the next time we came in because that's just the wonderful kind of person she is. But I didn't want her to have to be the one to make up to us. She wasn't even there the day it happened. So, in summary, I am deeply disappointed and disgusted by the management and ownership of Bill's. Once Jane eventually retires, we will be unlikely to return. Thank you for your patience in reading this...

We normally love coming to Bill’s and often frequent another Robert’s establishment as well, Roadside B&G. We came to Bill’s tonight since we haven’t been here in a few months, and I’m sad to say, it was really disappointing. We only waited about 15 minutes for a table-they were moderately busy but not packed- and were eventually seated outside. When a server hadn’t even approached our table in the 20 minutes since we were seated, we were about to go ask the hostess if she could send a server to our table. As we stood up, a server approached and said ‘do you need something -I can tell by the mean mug you just gave me that you wanted something ?’ I explained that it was not a mean mug I was giving, I was squinting as she approached the table trying to adjust my eyesight since we were outside. We told her a server hadn’t come to the table (although 2 couples walked in after us and one was seated near us and already had drinks and bread on their table). Our server came by, asked if we’d like to order, and we gave her our drink and dinner order at the same time since we had already been waiting now 30 minutes. I ordered the brick chicken and was told the kitchen just ran out of that dish five minutes prior. Would’ve been nice to actually have had a server take our order before they ran out. By the way, this was at 8pm and it’s a Saturday night -how are they out of a dish already? Anyway, another 30 minutes for my soup and salad and my husbands veal dish. He said the veal was good so that was a bonus. My salad looked like it had been sitting in the kitchen overnight and the soup was so hot (I’m sure it was also sitting for a while and heated in the microwave before it came out). Never saw our server again, was never able to order another drink with our dinner, and had to go ask the hostess to find our server to bring our bill. Meanwhile, 4 other tables were seated outside with us with very attentive servers. The gentlemen who delivered our food was the nicest and most attentive person we encountered. I’m pretty disappointed in the whole experience and never expected or was ever treated this way before at Bill’s. They have some issues to work on and resolve before we...

I don’t know how this place stays in business. I’ve been there 3-4 times since they opened over ten years ago, and each of my experiences has been negative. I was hoping that they had finally worked the kinks out and I would see why other people enjoy this place so much. The good: atmosphere is nice, very clean, friendly staff. Negatives: SLOW, mediocre food, inattentive servers. We had a reservation, and it took 20 minutes after our reservation to get our table. It took another 10 minutes just to get waters and initial drink orders. Then the food took another 45 mins to come out. Our server seemed flustered, and blatantly showed it, talking over me to another staff member while I was mid sentence ordering. When at a nice restaurant, I don’t want to know what’s happening behind the scenes. I want to enjoy my dining experience. Once the food finally came out, it was mediocre. Nothing was a stand out dish, and certainly not worth the wait. This experience has been consistent with the handful of times that I have visited before. Bottom line: I’ve given Bill’s enough chances, and nothing has improved. I will not be returning.

Edit- I received a prompt response from Bill’s regarding this review. I was assured that this kind of experience was not the norm and the manager apologized and wanted to make things right. I greatly appreciated the accountability. Despite my experience, Bill’s is filled with...

This is my favorite restaurant. I've never been disappointed with any aspect of this restaurant. Only impressed. I often get the burger, which is the best in Michigan. Every person I've taken to Bill's ends up loving it as much as I do. Go for a great lunch, dinner, or brunch. The dirty martinis are special. Get the olives stuffed with blue cheese. The French toast and pancakes are unbelievable. The eggs Benedict are insane. Get them with a salmon cake if you like. Try everything on the menu. I once had a flourless chocolate torte with cherry sauce. It was the definition of exquisite. The decor is slightly masculine and vintage. It has an athletic/social club vibe. There is an amazing chandelier that isn't tacky (sometimes they can be 😂). There is also an outdoor seating area, but I prefer inside to see all the great vintage things on display around. The service staff are pros. I've never had anything but the best service at Bill's because they don't hire young kids who are inexperienced. The staff are skilled communicators who know the menu. Get your rear end to Bill's ASAP.

Beautiful upscale casual restaurant on Woodward in Bloomfield Hills. Because this restaurant is open late (10pm weekdays, 11pm weekends), we find ourselves here a lot on busy weeks. Everything on the menu has been outstanding. House soup is split pea with ham, and is spectacular. The Berkshire Pork Chop is served with sliced apples, Maple glaze and homemade onion rings. Meatballs with polenta are great. Burgers are top notch. The dining room is one of the best in Detroit. Dark with chandeliers, comfortable, eclectic. The restaurant is still lively. Cool soundtrack. Friendly approachable service. We love this place for a nice getaway meal near home. Worth the visit every time.

The hamburger was cooked to perfection with a juicy patty, a delicious bun, and all the toppings I was looking for. It was definitely a highlight of my meal. The truffle fries were also a standout. They were crispy, fluffy, and infused with the perfect amount of truffle flavor. Lastly, the east coast oysters were fresh and delicious, which is always a great sign when it comes to seafood. Overall, I would rate my experience at Bills an 8 out of 10. The food was great, the service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a satisfying meal in Bloomfield Hills.
