Barrel House — Restaurant in Bloomington

Went in at 7 pm on Wednesday, October 29 and waited 10 minutes with 9 other guests to get seated. No receptionist in sight. When she finally arrived we were told she was getting the channels on the TVs changed. I asked to be seated in front of TVs (also expected 2 other guests to join) and was told to wait for table to be cleaned. 5 minutes later was sat in the east section where TVs had very dark screens and barely seeable. Waited another 10 minutes for a waitress to stop and ask for beverage order. Ordered a beer and waited another 10 minutes to stop the waitress and was told the only bartender was busy and would I like a water. Finally at 7:40 my beer arrived and I stated the tip will reflect the quality of service I get. At 7:50 I stopped the waitress (Alexis was her name) and asked about ordering food. She announced she was waiting for the other two guests to arrive before asking me about that. I stated the other two guests were informed about the terrible service and decided not to come and that she should have asked me at least about an appetizer long ago. I said I was no longer interested in waiting for food and just to bring me the check. There were two other waitresses working my section and they attended their guests much better but never asked me for food/beverage orders either. I also asked for the manager and all she did was listen and offer to pay for my beer. I said the cost of the beer is not the point but the poor service....and especially the non-attentive waitress and receptionist are. A don't believe they were understaffed as I counted 6 servers, the manager and the bartender on duty with a restaurant about 1/2 full. They need to train their servers/receptions better or fire them....especially Alexis. I never got to taste the food so I...

We went on a double date with the expectations of good food and service but possibly a bit pricey as previous reviews have said. However, it was not what we were hoping for. For two people to order 1 drink and a meal each along with a traditional tip, it was $72. My order was cold while someone else at the meal did not like theirs. Our waiter stood behind us while taking our order and so we had to turn in the booth to even see him. When I ordered my $14 margarita he did not ask what flavor I wanted and just brought a random one over and immediately left. At the end of the evening he pressed the 20% tip option for us and just pointed where to sign which is highly suggestive of what you want from somebody. I would have liked to address all of these things while there, but being a double date as it was that's not necessarily an appropriate time to do so without being awkward. I can't speak to the service or atmosphere as I got take-out. However, this is some of the worst, inedible food I have ever been served. I am not picky with food and when hungry, I will literally eat anything. I ordered the Honey Chicken Salad Sandwich - the picture online makes it look like an actual chicken salad mixture where it is mushy and all combined. What I received could only be described as disgusting. It was chunked chicken in what I can only describe as coated in honey mustard and mayo that was watered down. The chicken had so much fat and grizzle running through it that after spitting almost every bite out, I just threw it away. They also missed the cheese which, I paid extra for.

The ONLY and I mean only reason this is getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because the truffle fries that I got with it were edible. I don't care how convenient it is being connected to the hotel - I will get in the car and drive somewhere next time. You couldn't pay me to go back...
