I have to admit, when I saw Max's Place open up I was skeptical. Bloomington has a ton of great pizza already.
I am eating that skepticism and it tastes soooooooo good.
I make know bread. (I do make a lot of bread after all! lol!) I know pizza too. (I used to work at several different pizza places and make homemade pizza all the time.) I was blown away by the quality of their dough and by the quality of the ingredients they use. You can see the qualitylity in the pics. Look at those gorgeous anchovies! I’ve never had better on a pizza! And the crust was so well baked!
We got a margarita, a max, a Luciana (w/anchovies), and some breadsticks. Seriously so good! Every pizza was perfection! The only thing I would change (but it doesn’t really need changed), is I would put a little garlic dill butter on the breadsticks. But I absolutely love a good breadstick with some garlic dill butter and no one around here does them that way.
I hope they stay around for a long long...
Read moreMax’s Place is hands down the best pizza in Bloomington. Every pizza place in Bloomington (except Max’s place) is trash. They’re all so ridiculously heavy, no flavor, no crisp, soggy, horrible under carriages. I don’t know who came up with the same exact pizza for every single pizza place in Bloomington thinking that was a good idea; it wasn’t. Avers, Pizza X, Mother Bears, aZip, none of them hold a candle to Max’s Place. Ordered two pies, one half pep, half cheese, and one Luigi. When the put the boxes in my hand I about started to tear up because they didn’t weigh 10 pounds. I couldn’t wait to get home to try a slice, so I grabbed a slice in the car , and let me tell you. Light, flavorful sauce, beautiful undercarriage, crispy crust, a little char from the BRICK OVEN, almost ZERO flop, it wasn’t drowned in toppings and cheese and sauce where every single slice weighs 1 pound. I don’t know I’ll ever get any other pizza in Bloomington again! Don’t ever change...
Read moreBy far the best thin crust pizza in Bloomington, if not Indiana. If you want as close as you can get to Neapolitan style pizza in Bloomington, come here and get the Margarita.
In simple pizzas, the quality of ingredients is crucial, and that Margarita pizza is absolutely stellar because of the quality ingredients they use.
The other pizzas are just as fantastic. Their crust is unparalleled; it and the red sauce are far better than Mother Bears' and Da Vinci's. Some other reviews have called the pizza here average, and it seems to me this is because there are no other similar pizza options for comparison in Bloomington, leaving the judgement passed in those reviews to be based on thicker crust, joe-schmo, indistinguishable pizzas. This place absolutely stands out and deserves business. I am excited to make it a regular part of my meal rotations.
tl;dr Damn good, high quality, fresh thin...
