Gluten Free / Celiac / Vegan / Vegetarian / Whole-Food Plant Based (WFPB) & some of the best Italian in Hamilton and Bordentown
I have a best friend that is a Celiac and a daughter that eats Gluten Free. Palermo’s is a safe and great place I can take them. They have a family member with Celiac disease, so they understand the need for NO cross-contamination. My daughter is on me about eating less meat and more vegetables, the chefs were completely accommodating to my entire family. Some wanted no eggs, some no dairy (cream/butter), some no meat. Palermo’s has a completely separate menu for Gluten Free, see the website. The best part is they can do some of their daily specials Gluten-Free, if possible. This gives my family so more variety. Below are some of our favorite items and how we order them.
Chicken Scampi over Pan-Fried Potatoes: $14.95 (GF) Strips of tender chicken sautéed in a lemon garlic sauce served over pan-fried potatoes This item is Gluten-Free. But it can also be vegetarian, you can swap out the Chicken, for Artichokes. If you get the artichokes battered – which is delicious and my favorite way – then you will be eating eggs. I was eating with my daughter tonight, so we went WFPB / vegan. The Artichokes were un-battered and sauteed and the chef even went the extra step to make the sauce without the butter. It was delicious, Plus, with any calories I saved, I used them for dessert! Picture – WFPB / Vegan Un-breaded Artichokes over Pan-Fried Potatoes with no butter in the sauce.
Artichoke Francaise: $14.95 (GF) Artichoke hearts, lightly fried and sautéed in lemon butter sauce This is a wonderful appetizer, and keep these artichokes in mind if you want to replace meat on another item. Or you can do what my daughter does and add firm Tofu to it when she gets this for take-out.
Francaise sauce VS Scampi sauce – we love the Scampi sauce better because of the lemon, garlicy flavor. Some nights we get the Francaise sauce.
Gluten-Free Gnocchi, Cheese Ravioli, Onion Pierogies, or Stuffed Shells: $22.95 Alfredo with Italian Sausage, Creamy cheese sauce with Italian sausage
We ordered Gluten-Free Gnocchi, without the Italian sausage (I have had it before – the sausage is great but we are attempting to eat more plant-based meals). There is enough for 2 servings – if your children are not stealing them. We also bring the extra sauce home, it goes great on spaghetti squash the next day.
POLLO BALSAMICO $19.95 – Dinner Special that we asked to be made Gluten Free (GF) Chicken breast sautéed in a balsamic cream sauce with asparagus and tomato This was made gluten free and we asked for no chicken and extra vegetables and to add some Artichokes. It was sublime.
Their desserts are delicious, so save room. They have Gluten Free desserts too.
Gluten-Free Eggplant Parmesan. This item is not on the menu, but they can make you a tray of it for family events, holidays, etc. My daughter has been looking for Gluten Free Eggplant Parmesan for years. I think I will order her a tray for her birthday. She will eat some – not share – and take all of the left overs home for meal prep for work. It freezes fine and this is the time of year to get it, while eggplants are fresh and in season. You have to give them some notice - like a catering order. I will let you know how it is.
If you are Gluten-Free or have Celiac, know that at Palermo’s you will have a wonderful, safe, and healthy Italian meal. Please tell your GF friends, your GI doc, share the news!!! This place is a find...

i have NEVER had a bad meal, Pizza or even just a snack from Palermo 's Restaurant and I am extremely picky too!!!!
When i asked for their suggestions , they have always been so delicious and that's why i trust them!!!! I just tried a couple of new things: breaded mushroom appetizers.......I LOVED every single bite.....really wanted more!!!!!! I always get the Zucchini sticks....they are still one if my favorites & artichoke francaise
their ' shrimp Francaise ' ( which I missed when "Antonios restaurant closed years ago ) well their shrimp francaise is the closest ever to ' Antonios' !!!!
along with their tiramisu cake ( i think their's is the best ! And i have had alot of others. ) .....i got 2 new deserts that were fantastic today: ( i am bad with the names though, sorry ) chocolate /or fudge velvet cheese cake.... and think other was butterscotch & chocolate cake......which I loved both!! Funny thing is, i hate most cakes because i find them very dry! all Palermo's deserts are so special and I find them to be excellent each time I try new ones. I especially enjoy their specialty ice creams!!!!!
i get a speciality Pizza which is my favorite: white pie with spinach, garlic & ricotta cheese ( already has mozzarella on it ) ..... this pie a 2nd & 3rd day treat for me......still great tasting after warming in oven for 12-15 minutes. I also loved the " margarita gourmet pizza " . They have regular pie specials on Saturday & Monday too, along with " Brooklyn pies " .
The pasta is another one of my favorites, i prefer topped with alfredo sauce, their's comes with sausage, but I also love it without sausage, a true homemade taste!
Great portions too, I always have enough for the next day.
their renovation made the restaurant so much larger, great staff and owners. Very , very clean !!! Everyone I have either doned there with or even suggested as a great place to go has been just as pleased with Palermos as I am.
I truly enjoy their pick up service, eating at home is faster for me. They do have great delivery service too, which is how I first found them.... back in 2015 ( might have been earlier... so many knees surgeries ago ) . I couldn't drive and really wanted Pizza, my neighbors across street always got their food quite often by delivery service , so I gave them a call & I have been a loyal customer ever since.
to sum it up: best food, great service both dine in and to go / deliveries. Very reasonable prices and truly deserving of...
Good pizza, cannoloi, and more traditional Italian food.
Came in after a drive from NC, saw my brother's and a special someone. So after an 8 hour drive, I was hungry.
It's my 1st time in New Jersey. So this is my 1st stop. Driving is not as bad as I thought it would be. The scenery is actually kinda pretty, almost southern like.
This is a very small corner store, but as soon you walk in, it is almost the size of a cafe/diner.
The atmosphere was relaxing, but I did come in after like 730ish on a Sunday.
Gabby was my waitress, and she was brand new. I've been in that spot before. So I took my time ordering my food and didn't want to bother or stress Gabby too much.
I wanted Chicken Marsala as I was thinking of a certain someone. So I got it to compare, a side Caesar salad and a slice of Tomato Pie.
I am glad I was slightly hungry. The chicken was tender juicy and reminded me of her cooking... no where close as hers... but I could tell their style is very close to traditional italian cooking. They pounded the chicken to a super thin filet which is something I had actually seen her do to her thick chicken as well...The mushrooms were a mix of what looked to be baby bellas and regular, slightly seared but not mushy and still had chewy texture.. There were some broccoli florets tips. Very small amount, but it was recognizable. The sauce was gravy like, but not thick...and I waited about 3 minutes, and it started to turn into a thin film of skim. So there was creme added. Maybe due to how late I came in, the marsala sauce didn't get time to thicken enough... or maybe hers sauce was just thicker.
The slice was delicious. Never have I had such an extremely thin slice before, but this may be my new standard. It folded nicely, and I had a good sear and crunch. I just wish I ordered more... one slice wasn't enough. I am sad because I didn't get to try their Mexican slice.
They served red sauce pasta on the side... which I didn't expect. No meat, but if I did order that, I could see them serving it seperate.
The bread was freshly made. Scone shape. Sadly couldnt absorbed the marsala or Caesar sauce, but it did taste good on it own. They did serve butter tablets with them..
Gabby offered dessert and coffee. Just wanted dessert.
Never had a cannoli this small before, but it was adorable!!!... It was a small version, which was about the size of my fork tip, but the filling, chocolate, and the cookie like wafer texture were enjoying.
Good place to start in New Jersey. Thanks...
