Got the chicken and spaghetti special today as well as the catfish and freedom fries. I don't think they're called freedom fried here but they were crispy on the outside and nice and decently soft potato on the inside with tasty flavor and good amount of salt on them. The chicken and spaghetti, along with 2 pieces of I think garlic butter toast, was tasty and filling. You get a good amount for 10 bucks and the chicken is shredded mixed into the pasta. The pasts being I believe a Cajun seasoned pasta (pic below). Along with the delicious coke I could not finish the whole plate. I mightve been able to but then I'd get the itis and I needed to go back to work. The catfish was also yummy and crispy. I didn't like the tarter sauce the catfish came with as it had a horseradish taste to it and that's the one flavor I don't really like when it comes to sauces. Regardless, the catfish by itself was good. I can't say it's the best I've had around here but it's up there for sure. Did I mention how good the fries were? I'm the type that can eat fries by itself but I also like them with ketchup; but no ketchup is needed with their fries. I've ate here twice in the past and while I don't particularly remember what I got before, I also don't remember having any complaints so they deserve at least 4.5 stars but I'm definitely bumping it to a 5 because I've had no complaints and their coke is really good too. My daughter and I stopped here on our way from Florida to California based on a review I read. I’m glad we did! We ordered a bowl of sausage and chicken gumbo for my daughter and I ordered the 1/2 po’boy with side of seafood gumbo and Cajun fries. The seafood gumbo was good and not too spicy for me. The catfish po’boy was delicious! Large piece of catfish nicely fried with a wonderful coating. I truly enjoyed the sandwich. 😃 The fries were too spicy for me but my daughter liked them. Her gumbo was also good though spicier, due to the sausage, than mine. We just had waters but they do serve Coke products. The place is in a store front and has a funky feel to it and the mat in front of the women’s restroom needed changing out. It was very sticky. Would I return...yes, but I don’t expect to be passing through again. Some comments are that it’s a little pricey for to go. You can eat in and I thought the prices were fair. Our meal was about $17. The 1/2 po’boy with gumbo and fries was $9.99. The 1/2 sandwich was huge!

While home in Bossier over Thanksgiving we decided to check out a local Cajun place named Gumbo to Geaux. Looking at their menu I decided on the Creole Burger. "Jalapeno Cheddar bun with lite mayo and American Cheese topped with Fried Crawfish tails and Crawfish etouffee, served with Fries." Mmmmm, minus the cheese (seriously, who eats seafood with cheese?) that sounded wonderful, so I gave it a geaux. Holy Moly was it good! And huge! I only ate about 1/3 of it while we were there and took the rest home. My wife and I split the leftovers for lunch the next day! Anyway, if you're ever in Bossier City, give them a try.

Idk if my comment will show by giving no stars so i just gave it one star on everything! Seem like some Nice ppl working here but bad business!!! I ordered food that had hair in it and was under cooked. I ordered a large gumbo with cornbread on the side. The gumbo was good but too salty!!! The cornbread was a little too soft and undercooked! The cornbread also had hair and possibly lint in it! I was disappointed and upset cuz i was on my lunch break. And they didnt try to ease the situation at all when I called to complain!!! All they said was Im sorry but they cant do refunds! I asked for a meal replacement. And They said they dont add salt to the gumbo and that they only add broth so the gumbo would taste the same if i get it replaced. (They clearly dont know what they are talking about cuz if you add broth then you are adding salt cuz broth has salt in it!!!) And they said the cornbread arrives in a bucket or some sort and is already packaged. (Well I DONT CARE how this was packaged or arrived at your restaurant!!!! The point is that u run away from responsibility [by saying no refunds!] And Yall are serving the food with hair in it to PAYING CUSTOMERS!!!! so dont give an excuse of how the food comes to your restaurant!!!!)They said they dont do refunds which i did see a sign when i walked in to pick up my food. Anyway, I would expect any business to offer a different meal equal in value to the original order or replace the meal that was messed up which in this case i wouldnt want to get the gumbo since it would “taste the same” and neither the cornbread because of the hair. With the gumbo being the “same”, they didnt even offer to get me a different meal as i stated i was on my lunch break and cant return at the moment but i can later. I just feel like its bad business saying that you dont give refunds and dont offer anything to please a PAYING CUSTOMER! Handle your responsibility and own up to what you are doing by giving refunds or replacing my meal!!!! Im not even saying that yall put the hair in it but if u receive food already made with hair in it that u missed seeing before serving it for your business to gain profit and then serve it to a customer, then you are still at fault!!! I WILL NOT BE EATING HERE AGAIN!!!!! (Holdup…lemme say it with a microphone….I WILL NOT EAT HERE AGAIN!!!!!! I advise yall to eat...

The name of the business perfectly encapsulates what they offer. This is decent Louisiana cooking at a decent price, and is thoroughly enjoyable to eat. The atmosphere is lax and no-nonsense, but not unfriendly. The quality of the gumbo, which should be the bread and butter as the name implies, is pretty average. The actual recipe seems fine. I cannot think of a better ratio of foods or spices, but better quality ingredients would improve the gumbo. However, you could find that at a more expensive price elsewhere. It's simply a choice between cheap, good gumbo and expensive great gumbo. However, the etouffee in particular is a problem. "Étouffée" is a French word for "smothered." This restaurant takes that to the extreme. The roux sauce in ratio to the rice, vegetables, and seafood make it closer to soup than actual etouffee. In addition, the quality is below that of the gumbo. Good etouffee either relies on its subtle base -- high quality roux, butter, and seafood -- for its flavor, or it compensates by the addition of good seasoning and aromatics -- onions, salt, garlic, hot peppers and the like. Either fill a good niche, but this restaurant unfortunately offers neither in good amount. The po-boys and other sandwich options are much more well done. Frying seafood without overcooking or undercooking while seasoning it well (better than their etouffee) is very difficult and many restaurants fail to consistently do it well. I cannot say this of Gumbo to Geaux. While more expensive, better poboys exist in town... that would defeat the purpose of a poboy in general.

Overall, Gumbo to Geaux is a fantastic option if you live near it in Shady Grove. If you're traveling through or in Shreveport proper? I'm not sure I would take the time to...
