What a great restaurant! I cannot understand how and why it is not doing as great as it should be. DELICIOUS food. TERRIFIC service. Family oriented. I think the West Roxbury location is PERFECT. Prices are ok for the current economy.
I want Bertucci's to survive and thrive. Suggestions to make it a powerhouse again:
Add steak back into the menu. Have a couple of options. Offer steak pizzaiola also. Offer a sirloin and a nice New York cut. Add pork chops into the menu. Have mashed potatoes or broiled red potatoes with it. Offer a cold broccoli salad - with lemon juice, olive oil and some seasonings - like Mama used to make! Have a "Gelato Bar" in the place, where patrons - and even outside people not dining - can get authentic gelato (not ice cream). Offer a bunch of flavors with the most common toppings. At Thanksgiving and Christmas, add a traditional turkey meal to the menu! You will have families come if they know they can get the traditional meal with all the fixings! Make some changes to the dessert menu. Add chocolate cannoli. Add lobster claw. Add sfogliatelle. Add sesame cookies. Add pizelles. They go great with coffee. The kids will like those too. Specialize the menu where you have a special insert that caters to the location. People in a certain location may want a specific thing. Do a poll to find out what a particular location's patrons would want to see. Make it an insert in the menu. Fish: broiled scrod; broiled scallops. Consider a pasta bar where people can select the kind of pasta and toppings they want. Make it an all you can eat. Bring back fried calamari - and don't overcook it! Add pina colatas and daquiris into the bar menu. Do an italian corndog for the kids! Polenta! Very italian.
Non-menu stuff:
The West Roxbury location needs a refreshing. Ceiling tiles need to be replaced. Replace carpet with updated carpet tiles. Replace or refinish all tables - including booth tables. Consider stone table tops. The current tops are getting a bit sticky and old. Re-cushion and firm up the standalone and booth chairs.
Offer a discounted meal night - Saturday or Sunday maybe? Or one weekday? A flat rate meal?
Maybe a large screen that gives a rolling presentation on Italy, Italian food, Italian food cooking.
Improve outside the building advertising. Offer a weekly special advertised with a huge banner.
Let's inject some creativity back into the place. Make it more Italian - BUT - inject those traditional things also (steak, fish, chops) so that everyone can enjoy options! I know you would have tons more people coming if you offered the steak!!!
Hope this helps. Thank you for all you do for my family and me. We truly enjoy our meals there. We want to see the place bustling with action. Let's...
Read moreI have never in the 20 yrs. I personally have worked in the service/restaurant industry, ever received this kind of poor service from a bartender or a manager?! I'm actually shocked that this chain, would have a Manager belittle a patron for simply requesting Balsamic vinegar, and respond with well it doesn't come with that? The Bartender took 15min to bring my Kendall Jackson (not house) chardonnay. My two friends who arrived before me also had the same issue(at the bar) with their drinks( beer & wine)? It's one thing if it was a busy Friday/Saturday night, and it was busy....but we were the only 3 at the bar & there was 1 table in all the restaurant... so it wasn't busy! At NO POINT did anyone ever ask if everything was alright, if we needed anything & we did! It was as if the bartender disappeared after he appeared with my chardonnay? no napkins or silverware was brought despite the order ( Veg. soggy calzone, a diversified salad that was beautifully laid out in layers, and a prosciutto/caramelized onion pizza for which I added & paid for Arugula to be added. Beyond disappointed and annoyed when there was no check in or the ability to request another round of drinks? Literally had to use bar napkins...& when the manager purposefully rattled the doors to apparently let us know we were not wanted & they were closing up, opposed to just being appropriate and let us know kindly that they close at 9:30 (it was 9:20)...we didn't know but we all felt unwanted! We should have left without paying the check because despite the clear indication that we were not wanted, couldn't find the bartender to even give us the check & i wanted a small box for my 2 slices! Because 2 out of the 3 of us have been in the business, they got 20% tip because....I have never thought to tip less than that, but it wasn't deserved or earned & that is unacceptable!!! Beyond disappointed! Supposedly it was a new menu(that day), funny when I bought gift cards for Christmas & wanted to order by phone the menu online (fig, blue cheese, prosciutto pizza w/balsamic glaze) wasn't available because again a new menu??? why is it on the menu if no-one seemed to know about what their menu items are? Completely dissatisfied & mad at the service! I gave it 1 star because I liked my pizza, but poor management, & customer satisfaction is clearly not a priority!!! Love the bread/brick oven flavor but Watertown is the better location!!!! FYI to CORPORATE!!! $125 and a bad unfriendly , unprofessional experience!!! Better off supporting the friendly venues in the community... Birch Street Bistro, Sophia's Grotto or Pleasant Cafe (SPEND YOUR $$$ THERE, where your appreciated for the guest you are & the experience you want when...

I am writing this review with the understanding that COVID-19 is in place. We have dined at this location a few times in the past, and have had adequate enough service to warrant returning. The website itself said the order would be ready at 4:26pm, we placed the order at 3:50pm and arrived at 4:30pm, I proceeded to call as the order was for a curbside pick up. The woman on the phone only said that the order was not ready. We did not get a time for when it would be ready. We proceeded to wait another 20mins. My boyfriend went into the store and the man told him that the website was not accurate in giving a time- the man did not give an estimate on when it would be ready when he went in, only that it was “in the queue”. We proceeded to wait an hour until we got tired of waiting with no direct communication and left. I then called (as there was a line to get into the building so we decided not to wait further and to just call) to cancel my order and request a refund. The man on the phone was short and rude with us, condescendingly explaining again that the website was not accurate and that things are moving slowly due to COVID and that wait times are about an hour. We waited more than an hour for a order that was not to come. I decided to not argue and said that was fine we just wanted a refund. He said it would be processed today or tomorrow. I’m very disappointed in the service. I am a health care worker on the front lines and truly understand the wait times and such being longer than normal, what bothers me is the lack of communication, the rudeness, and that a time could not be given on the phone to me or to my boyfriend and that the wait time that was stated was about an hour when we had waited about 2 hours total for our food from the moment our order was placed. I’m not sure if we’ll ever return to this...
