I usually order from another restaurant in town on the advice of a classmate from India, but went for this one for a change of pace today. Nice folks, reasonable price, but there's something about the flavor profile that just doesn't work for me. I ordered a dahl dish with black lentils and kidney beans, but it tasted legitimately like American chili. Not sure if it's authentic to a specific region and I'm just a dumb American or if it's truly anomalous. The veg korma is ok, and the special saag decent. The sweet potato and brussel samosa just tasted weird and overly sweet, as did the mint chutney. There was also in the restaurant an overwhelming odor of liquid smoke (and i was wearing a mask when i went in!). Might be in the lentil dish... Idk. The food is not horrible, i think there's just some spice i don't like, or artificial sweetener, and the liquid smoke. Oh, but the mango lassi is great so there's at least that! Even so, I'm gonna go back to my other spot next time...
Read moreNote that this is what happens to a fantastic restaurant that is sold to new owners/management who have no idea that they are doing. It used to be awesome! Anyway I had dinner at this restaurant last night. Ordered several chicken curries of different flavors and spice. A few side dishes and of course some naan. This was absolutely, without question, the worst Indian food I’ve ever had which is a shame because it’s my favorite international cuisine. The curries were barely warm. The naan bread is flat…hardly looks like naan and more like Roti. One of the dishes was to be very spicy and it was absolutely flat. Honestly the cook shouldn’t even be making Indian curries for a restaurant. Anyway, I’ve never posted such a harsh review but I’ve always found something good in every curry except at this place it was destroyed. We even ordered some veggie dishes and they were just like dried cheese sauce mush. So...
Read moreExcellent family-run South Boulder institution with a great neighborhood vibe. Everything I've tried on the menu (about 60% of it) is delicious. Tandoori salmon, super saag paneer (!!!), malai kofta, benghan bartha (sp?) are some of our favorites. When they have it, the Tandoori ribeye is the best steak in town. And unlike a lot of places, if you like it hot they'll make it hot. The staff have all worked there forever and are like family. BONUS: they have a great little "no name" bar right next door (You can also order from the menu there.) It's a great place for a night cap or to keep the night going. Also a great spot to watch a game. I saw the Cubs win the World Series there. The usually chill place was rocking! It's a true neighborhood bar in Boulder. Sadly, a rarity; we're...
