I ate here last month and unfortunately experienced the unholy trinity of a bad dining experience- long wait times, undercooked food, and a rude waitress.
We (a party of 2) came in an hour and a half before closing and were promptly seated immediately. We didn’t get our drink or orders in until 15-20 mins after we sat down. No big deal. I think maybe this late they sent home a large majority of their staff because it took close to 40-45 mins to get our food. Once again, it’s not the end of the world so long as I enjoyed my meal… however this wasn’t the case.
I order the chopped sirloin, and it was both misleading and extremely undercooked. It was essentially a ground beef patty, that’s it. Chopped sirloin means something completely different in other parts of the country. I see the response to the other review that technically chopped sirloin is ground beef- but you have to see why it’s misleading. Who would want to order a grilled ground beef patty as their entree? It also came completely BARE- a plain grilled ground beef patty. The menu states it came topped with chili, grilled onions, or a mushroom sauce and yet it was served completely bare- not appetizing at all. To make matters worse it was also UNDERCOOKED. I ate 2/3 of the patty and the last third of it was extremely pink- like the last part only had a very light sear leaving everything underneath pink. This didn’t even make sense to me as the other parts of the patty were cooked all the way thru leaving no pink and yet the end of the rectangular patty was still all the way pink except for a light sear on top?
I’m pretty understanding about mistakes like these and simply wanted something else to eat. When I got the waitress’ attention, I asked if I could get something else. She asked what was wrong with it. I began to explain what was wrong (calmly and without an attitude mind you), and the waitress cut me off mid sentence by HUFFING loudly and rudely saying “what do you want instead then?” This was sooooo off putting after I didn’t even make a big deal out of anything and I was being polite. I told her I didn’t want anything anymore and she just took it off our check. I think she just didn’t want to deal with it cause she was at the end of her shift (she left the building with her stuff before we even paid). Like I get that it is irritating to deal with a complaint at the very end of your shift but you don’t have to be rude about it.
At the end of it all, I had to stop by McDonalds on my way home because I was still hungry- which is something no one wants to do after paying money at a restaurant. Food prices are getting higher and higher, and eating out is becoming more of a luxury. So it’s sad to choose a place to eat, get charged $50+, and not like your meal or get...
Read moreWe stopped in on a rainy Saturday morning in June 2025. We immediately felt welcomed by the greeter who immediately took our party of two to a clean and comfortable booth by the fireplace. The person that seated us brought a pitcher of water with them and we had water while we looked at the menu and waited briefly for our server. (Very nice touch!)
There was a lot of staff bustling around and we had coffee right away- even before seeing our server. My cup was never less than 1/4 full and the coffee was so good!!!
Questions about the Swedish pancakes were answered by a polite young man, and an order was finalized when the server came. I asked the server about the “Homemade corned beef hash” was it really homemade? She said the cook makes a brisket and chops it up with potatoes, onions, and peppers. GREAT! I can not stand the canned stuff, but love a good corned beef hash.
The food arrived and I instantly could tell that this was TRULY homemade corned beef hash. Nice chunks of corned beef, potatoes, and peppers and onions. The hash was well seasoned and delicious! I also ordered the Swedish pancakes, plain, no fruit, and the server stated that she had put in the order wrong and they had been made with strawberries. I said that wasn’t a problem- I would take them anyway. Server stated that new ones were being made, but she could put those in a box to take home. YEA!!!!!
The Swedish pancakes had such a wonderful flavor and texture- literally the best I have ever had! The berries made it even better and I would suggest adding those in the future!
My husband had Family Pancake House (FPH Breakfast) and thoroughly enjoyed it and said it was very, very good. Everything was prepared with care and attention to detail, and tasted better than expected. The bacon was a bit fatty and he did not eat it. (Super picky on bacon!)
I was so, so needing a comfort food breakfast just like this, served by kind and attentive people that truly seemed to want to serve and loved their job.
Thank you for the...
Read moreI loved the idea of this place as it seems like a family diner kind of environment you'd grow up visiting, but I just can't justify a good review. My husband and I came here for dinner. We sat for 15 minutes before a waitress approached us; we weren't in a hurry, so we waited as we thought it would be worth the wait. It turned out to just be poor service as our waitress didn't refill our drinks (that ran out before we even got our food), did not stop by the table after we received our food, and left us waiting another 10 minutes after finishing our meal to come back over to us.
We ordered a hot turkey sandwich and an aloha burger. My husband ordered chicken as a substitute for his burger and was charged a substantial amount, somewhere in the $8-10 range by our calculations as our final check did not itemize for that (but menu says there is no charge for this substitute). It also did not have the teriyaki sauce. I would say the burger was cooked well and the sweet potato fries were good, so his meal was somewhat redeemed. My turkey sandwich had real turkey, which is a plus, but it was dry/tough on a bed of sandwich bread with a bland white gravy and mashed potatoes. I have no way of confirming whether this is the case or not, but the taste of the mashed potatoes was very similar to instant potatoes. And my meal was supposed to be served with a salad that I did not receive.
So I was hopeful that this would be a great classic restaurant for classic meals when you just want good homemade type meals. But we were very disappointed to find that...
