Didn't even get to sit for 5 minutes on 5/16.
A 27 year old woman with an obvious protected disability in our party was turned away. She had a state ID that has NO expiration date. It does not expire. She was only going to drink sprite.
Regardless, she was 27 years old! With a valid federally recognized ID. She does not have a "license" (driver's) that expires, she has a state identification that doesn't expire. She cannot get a driver's license due to her disability. There is no expiration date on her state ID because it doesn't expire. She was discriminated against while she had every legal right to be in this establishment. She was even able to fly cross country a day prior with this ID.
When confronting management, we were told that the ID scanner says the ID was expired. Funnily, the scanner said it was invalid 5/16/2024.. the DAY WE WERE THERE, so technically still VERY valid. We were told they could accept military or veteran IDs. I was told they wouldn't have an issue with my Disabled American Veterans ID. What's even funnier with this is that they didn't seem to mind that expirations doesn't exist on the DAV ID. It says: INDEF, as in indefinitely with no expiration.
So they were fine with ME, a visually and seemingly abled bodied person, in their bar, but not someone who physically appears as different? What's the difference? We both have valid unexpired IDs with no expiration date. 100% the difference was that I look "normal".
Blatant discrimination and incredibally horrible people running this place.
Also, we were told by the tall blonde bartender that Washington state laws trump any other states IDs, when the liquor board is very clear that the member of our party was there with valid identification from another state with an unexpired ID. Again, hers was unexpired and it has no expiration date.
When I pointed out their fallacies and called them out for blatant discrimination, the shorter dark haired manager kept smirking and saying "at the end of the day, it's house rules." She walked away with zero remorse for kicking out a person with disabilities. What a disgusting manager.
So it's house rules to discriminate against persons with observable disabilities? False. It's...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews, but after witnessing a waitress be rude to the couple sitting next to me, I feel obligated to say something. My friend & I came to watch a band play last night and we sat at the table that sits in front of the stage. Since it was just the two of us at a large table, we invited an older couple who were looking for seats to come join us. They ordered food and drinks and the lady wasn't happy with her drink. She politely told the waitress that she didn't like it because it had too much ice. The waitress proceeded to tell her in a rude tone that she ordered a blended drink and that blended drinks are icy. I completely agree with that, but the point was that she wasn't happy and kindly asked for something else. The waitress responded with a tone that was very rude and she was argumentative with the customer. The customer tried multiple times to explain to the waitress she did not like her drink. She obviously wanted something to replace it. But the waitress continued to make her feel like crap about it and never offered to make her something else. Instead, she got frustrated and walked away with an attitude and left the lady with a drink she disliked and never drank. This affected the service my friend and I got too. The waitress then avoided our table for most of the night. We even had to go to the bar to order more drinks.
As someone who has worked in customer service for many years, the waitress handled this situation very poorly. She was extremely rude and it's unacceptable. She could have easily apologized and just made her a new drink but instead she chose to be argumentative and rude. The older lady was at a loss for words and could not believe how she was treated and I felt bad for her! You could tell she was embarrassed. After that interaction the vibe was very awkward when the waitress made her rounds. It got to the point where the waitress was avoiding the lady and only interacting with her husband.
This kind of service is unacceptable and I hope that it gets addressed. I've always had a good time when visiting The Garage, but last night was super awkward and put a bad taste...
Read moreWhat can I say about the Garage that hasn't already been said? I think this place is a solid 3 stars. I'm big on consistency, and this place has never been consistent. The one constant is the staff all seem to be the same core group. All VERY nice, but some are more helpful than others. So there's no consistency in service, one weekend you might get someone who's checking in with you and refilling your water and zooming around the place, and the next weekend you'll find yourself looking around wondering where your server has been for the last 20 minutes. This can be pretty frustrating.
It is the same with the food, one day you'll be blown away by what you're eating amazed that this is bar food, and then next visit you'l be wishing you had just ordered the thing you got last time. I like being adventurous, but hate getting burned trying something different. It's fine if you found something you really like (chicken fried steak for sure, and that carne asada meat is the bomb) and don't mind just ordering it over and over. My point is it can be very hit and miss,. The portions are either laughably huge or way too small for the price.
The Bloody Marys....are good. I don't really think the prices are fair for what you get. A standard Bloody Mary starts at like $13, make it a double and if you want top shelf vodka you're over $20.That's before you start getting into the more fancy ones with the crazy toppings. There's nothing amazing about the actual Bloody Mary itself, and I am sure it's the novelty that keeps me coming back for one every time. Having all the toppings also helps satiate your hunger on those days where you're waiting for your food and looking for your server.
The atmosphere is like others say, it looks like your dad's garage minus the toolboxes. It has that bar smell to it for sure.
The crowds are always interesting. Very eclectic, so it's just fun just for people watching. This place draws all sorts of people, so it's not just a dude bar because it's car themed. Solid 3 stars overall. It's too up and down for me to...
