This morning, I stopped by Velvet Revolver in Brevard to treat myself to a $6–7 drink. It wasn’t sweet, so I asked for a little sugar. The barista gave me a look, grabbed a bottle of simple syrup (I actually prefer raw sugar), and while pouring it in said, “Next time you need to ask for sugar when you order.”
I told her that her tone was a little too much and came off as rude. She responded, “Oh yes, I’m sorry,” but then explained that because of my request, she had to stop what she was doing — meaning preparing the next order. I suggested simply leaving sugar out for customers, and she snapped back that since COVID, they don’t serve sugar. So… they don’t offer sugar because of COVID, but it’s perfectly fine for her to hold and pour a syrup bottle by hand? I pointed out that it’s been five years since COVID-19, and that excuse no longer holds up. They could easily offer paper sachets like many other places.
The worst part was when the customer next to me chimed in with, “Oh, let’s just get over it,” implying that I should drop it. The barista then started apologizing to that customer, so I said, “I’m the one who should be getting the apology.” Instead, she called me entitled for asking for sugar — when, frankly, she was the one who acted entitled.
Are we so used to bad service that we’ve become immune to it, not even noticing when we’re being treated poorly — even while paying premium prices for a simple drink? That’s what it felt like.
I’m surely never returning to Velvet Revolver, and here goes my one-star review. When there’s a bad driver, they’re sent to driving school; maybe it’s time for some real customer service training for the people working the front...
Read moreBased on my customer experience I will not come here again.. There was a line of about 4 but judging by how confident the barista was to handle things themselves after being asked if they needed help (by a coworker I assume) I was sure a question about the menu wouldn’t be harmful. They shared some playful banter while they were finishing up the order before mine as well, so I really wasn’t expecting my interaction with them. Shortly into our interaction I felt like an inconvenience for having questions about the menu. I’ve never been to this state, let alone this coffee shop so I did have a total of two questions. That seemed to aggravate the barista because I got told to take a look at the menu. I did reread it & genuinely tried not to cause trouble - I only had questions because I struggle with dyslexia.. & that can leave you confused when you can’t always make out the words as fast as others. I tried to ask for a RECOMMENDATION, & got the same response again. I feel like especially with how everything is priced fairly high, you shouldn't feel uncomfortable for asking a question/ or recommendation. Eventually had to walk away because I started to feel very anxious/embarrassed. My partner ordered what he wanted by themselves afterward and I went back to the car & sat. My partner didn’t have any complaints about their drink they said, I didn’t think the drink they got for me tasted very good at all. Overall we agreed it would’ve had an overall better experience if I was given patience for my questions.. Or maybe another response beside “there is...
Read moreI love to camp and around Brevard is a great place, but I also like good coffee which I haven't figured out how to make in a campground. Stopped in here with my daughter and both of us had the best coffee we could remember. I had the Americana / coffee and she had the dirty chai. Pup cups for the dogs of course... Came back the next day for two different drinks and they were awesome as well. Seems like there can be a bit of a wait during the peak morning rush but it doesn't last long and it's well worth the wait anyway. Hopefully I'm not messing up the ranking by giving only four stars... especially when I'm not sure what to improve, but I'm a tough grader so don't let that throw you, it's great coffee. Almost forgot! she gave us some great tips for vegan food in Asheville and a couple of cool places to check out in the area as well. Now I really feel like a jerk for only...
