Cute place with a happy atmosphere BUT didn't live up to our expectations Would we go back. No! Here's why.... We stayed a few days to ski at Killington Resort and found this place with a Google search for 'Killington restaurants'. It was a short 10 minute drive from the Killington Mountain Lodge so we headed over. The outside appeal and the crowd at the bar made it seem inviting. We were the only people waiting and there were several tables but it still took 10 minutes to get us to a table. No biggie. Gerry, the hostess and owner, seated us and went through a long list of specials; we didn't remember most of them when she finished. A quiet young lady waited on us. She was nice but seemed extremely bored. Besides the exceptions below service was ok, food came out quick. As soon as she walked away the boys made a comment about her disinterest. My son had eaten at the lodge so he was just gonna have a few ribs. When he said he was just gonna share a few ribs the waitress was quick to tell him there was a $5 split charge so he might as well get fries, veg and eat the cole slaw. He didn't want those but she didn't really give him a choice. I ordered onion soup, a crab cake and a salad. She was quick to tell me if I ate the cole slaw it be a $5 up-charge. We were not happy with her quickiness to push the $5 charge in order to eat 4 ribs or salad and it ended up being the topic of conversation the entire dinner. The other 2 got full meals and we had a round of beers. They do feature Vermont beers which was nice.
About the food. THE CONS: The onion soup had a good broth but the onions were cut large and the cheese overcooked. The crabcake was crusty and flavorless as was the rice that came with the ribs. My $5 house salad was fresh but came with the signature blue cheese dressing in a small plastic cup but I don't recommend it as its like blue cheese crumbles in cheap ranch dressing. We were a table of 4 ordering barbecue but they served us a single tiny Onion Bread. One small 4 slice loaf that lasted about 3 seconds among 4 grown men with no offer for more. Our water glasses were filled when we sat and Gerry came around to refill them as we were paying the check. The only vegetable available was green beans. THE PROS: Nice full menu with lots of selections. The best thing about the BACK BEHIND was that the barbecue ribs (both kinds) were nothing short of spectacular! It made up (almost) for all the other shortcomings of this restaurant.
We would go back if the bartender was our waitress. We could see over at the bar people laughing with the good time bartenders. I fully understand a $5 split plate fee but politely ask if someone wants the extras when they only want a couple ribs. Three others at the table were spending $25+ a person so should not have been a big deal. Offer a variety of vegs. Keep my water glass filled. Offer bread refills often when your are serving 4 grown men drinking beer! We had dinner but it wasn't exactly a pleasant experience for the...

In summary, the service is slow, and does not follow any serving standard. I'm baffled by the inattentiveness of the staff and shocked by some of the ridiculous things they said to us. If your coming from the mountain, are tired, and hungry, like most of their customers, you could drive an extra 30 minutes to civilization and get food faster than if you sat down here.
Myself and 5 friends went here after snowboarding at Killington. Anyone coming from a long day on the mountain knows you just want to sit down. GOOD LUCK. Our group stood at the host stand for 15 minutes with nobody waiting ahead of us and an empty dining room. The hostess proceeded to tend to other matters right in front us, instead of taking the 2 minutes to seat us. After finally being seated, our "waitress" (who was only taking drinks) informed us we could not see the draft beer menu. I asked if they had any pilsners or blondes. "No." Well, I would have gotten a different beer if I had been able to look at the menu in her hand, but I wasn't allowed for some reason - What!? I order a margarita instead. Bad choice. Sweetest margarita I've ever had, which, by the way, took 12 minutes to arrive. In the meantime, we are waiting on a different waitress, Gerry, to take a food order for some reason, but we were never given food menus. After 10 minutes of waiting, I go up to the host stand and ask for menus. "Oh, Gerry is supposed to being them up to you," is the response I get. So I say "I see them right there, can't you just hand them to me, instead of making us wait? We've already been here half an hour." Well after finally getting menus Gerry never shows up and our drink waitress ends up taking our food order with the excuse, "She's in a weird place tonight." About 20 minutes after ordering, this waitress comes back to our table to ask how someone would like their burger cooked. Good, I guess our food isn't even close to being cooked. Nope. While waiting Gerry finally comes over, lights a candle on the table. My friend asks for another Corona. "You have to ask the other girl," is her response. Excuse me? What kind of service is that? When the food finally comes, it does taste good, but not good enough to compensate for the service. Lastly, while we're paying, we ask for the itemized receipt. "I'm not allowed to give that to you."
The experience was horrendous. How this place has any good reviews...
Read moreThis place was TERRIBLE. I don't know how anyone is giving it more than one star. We thought it was great when we first walked in. The owner came to our table and began telling us the specials. She was very nice and charismatic. The specials lasted about five minutes, though. Everything she said sounded good, but by the time she finished, we couldn't remember half of her speech! We looked to the menu, almost none of the items she listed were even on the menu. The physical menu has all their dishes that are top budget - most over $20 and even some over $30. If you go online, you can actually find their more reasonable menu, but no prices are listed. We passed around phones for the menu when we figured this out, which the waitress got very impatient with. There's a complete disconnect; menus needs serious updating. I ended up getting pulled-pork nachos for my meal which were EXTREMELY DRY. I asked the waitress for a side of sour cream and she warned me it would cost $2.00 extra. All set with that.
When it came time for our bill, we were splitting it with cards and cash. I realize it isn't the most convenient thing for wait staff. Our waitress gave us a pen and paper told us to write down card numbers and what was being put on them respectively. Okay, great. She brings back the slips and she charged the same card TWICE. Clearly didn't bother to read the paper written out. Why our friend even bothered to give a reasonable tip is beyond me.
Ladies bathroom stall is about two feet in length, just enough room for the toilet and not for your body. There's no room to even sit on the toilet. Never mind the fact that the toilet paper dispenser didn't even work properly. My advice: go somewhere else and avoid this place. When I thought it couldn't get worse, IT DID. Gordon Ramsey should visit this "restaurant" for a shoot of 'Kitchen...
