TL;DR - Started working in the area and I thought I would look for local favorites as opposed to going to national chains, and Slim's was one with a lot of good ratings so they looked like a great option. I used online ordering which went smoothly but things went downhill from there. Not sure if I was just unlucky, but I'm still on the fence if they are worth another shot or not.
The Good: Online ordering was simple and allowed for tipping, which I always appreciate. My order was ready right at the specified time so I was able to get in and out super quick. The quantity of food you get for the price is totally reasonable so you likely won't leave hungry.
The not so great: Everything else, unfortunately.
Experience: The employee who greeted me seemed extremely uninterested in being there and barely spoke at all to me; they could have just been busy as it was peak lunch time (though no one was in line) but it was a bit of a red flag to start. The counter and dining areas in general looked like they hadn't gotten a solid cleaning in quite some time and I was glad I decided to take my order to go. *At the time of this review, worker shortages have basically become an industry standard so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here; even if they weren't busy, they may just not be able to get the staff they need.
Food: I got the Gyro Combo Bowl so that I could try their chicken and lamb, and for sauce I got it with their cucumber sauce; overall it was... uninspiring. Nothing in the meal was particularly flavorful on it's own or when combined with the rest of the ingredients. Cucumber sauce was bland, the chicken didn't seem like it had any seasoning at all, the lamb had seasoning but it was minimal, and the basmati rice was very yellow, but not much else.
Overall a pretty disappointing first experience. I might give them another shot but at least as far as the gyro is concerned I wouldn't get it again; nothing seemed improperly prepared, it just...
Read moreI actually haven't been here since they first opened up shop in new hope on Winnetka and medicine lake road, on the other side of Winnetka from the cinema grill, right where dominos is now. I believe I was one of, if not the very first customer they had when they unlocked the doors for the first time. Right off the bat, everyone working here was so incredibly friendly, and excited to share their food with people. He suggested we try the burgersb and fries, and a gyro. The burger was seasoned a lot more creatively and unique from most other burgers. It was one of the best burgers I've had in my life. They were so perfectly cooked, and seasoned. That alone had me coming back almost daily until the day they moved away from, the original location, which was booking distance for me(I was probably like 3) Then you their in the forgetful, perfect fries, and gyro, the wind and make the would bring us just to have us try all the time, or to test done new flavor they changed, and the positive give they've all got make this place your perfect neighborhood sfood stop, and I can't imagine it's changed much since then. I will be back in there soon, she cannot wait to have me some slims again. Great job, guys. All around an amazing place to be, and a great...
Read moreMy first time here...Valentine's day. When I first ordered the customer service was nice. After they brought my food to the table my chicken was overcooked and my spouse's Rice bowl was overcooked to the point where it was like chips, when it was supposed to be meat. The young girl who brought our food comes over after being called and asked what the problem is so I explained to her that his food was way overcooked she said well you asked for well done, I jumped in there and said well done does not mean overdone. She looks at my spouse and tells him well next time you order don't tell him well done! So my spouse told her you don't tell us how to order our food if it's wrong it's wrong just correct it and she tried to over talk him after we spent damn near $50 between the two of us trying to eat on Valentine's Day. And the whole time the three men in the kitchen it's like they were staring at us the whole time. You know how you feel eyeballs on your back, that was the case and every time we turned all three of them (The kitchen staff) were watching us eat our food. What did they do to our food is the question, that they felt the need to watch us eat it? I don't recommend this place that is my first and last time...
