I was a frequent customer to the King Garden on Naamans Road for several years until I moved down near the Bear/New Castle area. For years I struggled to find a Chinese restaurant that matched their caliber. Until today (4/2/2023) when I found out a "King Garden" restaurant was located in the Beaver Brook Plaza. I looked on their website and saw that familiar King Garden menu art; thinking to myself "no way, it's too good to be true." I placed my order and set off for pickup.
Inside the restaurant I was greeted with extremely courteous service along with a clean and well kept storefront. I had to know if this restaurant had any relation to my long loved Naamans Road location. After inquiring with the kind woman at the front counter, she told me her uncle owned the Naamans Road location for 30 years and had recently sold the business. Immediately, I was flush with excitement because my curiosities were confirmed. This restaurant was related to one that I held close to my heart for years. I told the woman how much I missed the food of the Naamans Road location since I moved and that it brought me joy to know I was standing in its sister restaurant. After receiving my food she notified that the chef followed my request for extra spicy hot & sour soup, hoped that I would love the food, and ultimately hoped I return for more.
Now for the food review. Its always good practice to order multiple things so I got the following: Hot & Sour Soup, Boiled Pork Dumplings, Sweet & Sour Chicken Special Combo (Egg Roll, Pork Fried Rice), and General Tso's Chef Specialty. Hot & Sour Soup: Loaded with tofu, mushroom, and flavor. Extra spicy as I requested. This soup was great. I have had so many hot & sour soups that were watery, lacked content and almost flavorless. NOT this soup, absolutely awesome. Boiled Dumplings: Pork was tender, flavorful, and not chewy. Dipping sauce was soy and scallion based, paired well. Sweet & Sour Chicken Special Combo: Chicken was fried well and not greasy. The dipping sauce is much thicker and has good flavor compared to other sweet/sour sauces. Fried rice had notable wok hei. Egg roll was tasty too. General Tso's Chef Specialty: Chicken was in nice bite sized pieces, cooked properly, and sauced well. No chewy or stringy pieces. Broccoli was steamed the right amount (not raw or overcooked).
This restaurant has my loyalty until I either die or move away from the area. I only wish I had found them back in 2020...
Read moreGreat service... The lady who took my order had both a friendly and professional disposition. I can tell she is familiar with her regulars as she knew I was new to her restaurant. We ordered fried chicken wings and shrimp fried rice and rib tips, and everyone was pleased with their order...my husband even was snagging food from other folks plate because it was too good...and my husband is from cameroon so for him to want to eat 2nds of anything outside of West African food is nothing...
Read moreI recently had the shrimp with broccoli in white sauce, and wow - what a game changer! Hands down one of the best shrimp and broccoli dishes I have ever tasted 😋 The flavors were fresh, perfectly balanced, and incredibly satisfying.
Beyond the food, the service here truly stands out. The woman who usually assists me - who I believe may be the owner - is always so kind and welcoming. Her kindness adds a personal touch that makes these rare visits a pleasure....
