Barandas Fresh Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Broussard

Sorry. I like to give positive reviews. So I'll start by saying the server we had at Barandas was one of the best we've encountered in years. And my wife loved the salsa (but it wasn't for me). But it stops about there. The quality of the food was just plain bad. We ordered two entres. One was grilled chicken. The chicken tasted like it was not fresh, so much so that we didn't want to eat it. We sent it back. The other was the Burrito Extravaganza, their top of the line beef burrito. It tasted like the beef was in a frozen dinner with processed brown sauce. Lots of vegetables on top, so at least it was edible.

This is the kind of place I'd expect to find in rural central U.S. where there are no other Mexican choices. But in Lafayette where all restaurants are good (or they won't make it) and Mexican is becoming very popular, this place is way out of place.

The service was fine, but the food really wasn't good. It was all dry and the flavors were really off. The enchilada sauce tasted more like dried up mole. It was hard to find any meat in the enchiladas and I even had one chicken fajita enchilada! The rice had flavor but was dry and crunchy/chewy. The refried beans were not refried at all. The were slightly undercooked and put through a blender, so they were a bit grainy and they were sprinkled with a wisp of parmesan instead of any of the traditional cheeses they could have used. The cheese enchilada didn't taste like cheese at all. The Sopapillas were something like fried pita bread covered in granulated sugar and cinnamon. It was not light and fluffy, but dense and chewy. I missed powded sugar and the honey tasted...

Sorry but I don’t agree with some the comments that the food was great,, This is not a Mexican grill at all sorry to said this but I try one meal and it was horrible no flavor on food the shrimp fry was so dry and hard that I could kill some one with I try another plate just to judge at Firth but second plate was even worse.. I’m sorry no flavor or maybe cause it was Tuesday night.. I’m Spanish and my cooking is better then what I had.. please work on hiring a Mexican cook Sorry...
