We docked our boat at the public landing and walked all the way to Mingâs, since they were the only sit down restaurant open in town on a Wednesday at 4:00pm. It was close to 90 degrees outside and when we arrived, there was a sign on the door stating the dining room closed at 3:00pm. We initially were going to walk back to the new Thai restaurant and order their takeout, since it was a lot closer to our boat and we wouldnât have to carry our food so far. But we noticed some picnic tables, across the road from Mingâs near the waterfront. I went back inside to ask the hostess if we could use those tables, and the first words out of her mouth were, âthose arenât ours.â So I asked again if we could USE those picnic tables, and she said they were open to the public.
We went back inside to place our orders and one of our party sat down in a chair, that was next to the counter for ordering, to look at the menu. The hostess asked her to get up and move to the bench âbecause those chairs are supposed to be a barrier.â (There were no signs on the wooden chairs to even indicate their purpose.)
I placed my order and she asked if I wanted to pay then or wait until the order came out. I told her we hadnât decided on drinks yet, so I would wait. After five minutes I placed a single water in the counter. The same hostess was behind the counter and I told her I was ready to pay. She told me she could not ring me up until my order came out from the kitchen now because my order slip was in there. (The kitchen is just a few steps behind her counter, and I watched her disappear in there four times from the time we ordered our food until we actually received it.)
I was so tempted to stay right there in the air conditioned atmosphere and have the four of us eat our meals on the wooden bench and couple of seats in the corner, but I didnât want to be in the presence of an employee with such a rude personality any longer than necessary.
We will not...
Read moreOver priced and bland food, any time I've ordered take out, they screw up the order, the food is overpriced considering the quality. China Hill in Ellsworth is by far superior and only 20 minutes away.
Edit (7/2/2022): Four years later from when this review was shared I decided to give them another try. I ordered takeout and ordered a Number 4 and my wife Ordered Honey Chicken. The number four tasted like the meat and vegetables were from a can and reheated. The chicken fingers had a fish taste to them and the pork fried rice had a couple pieces of pork and doused in soy sauce and was just as bland as everything else. My wifeâs honey chicken was soggy and tasted like they had dumped sugary water over it. The little carton of white rice they gave her with it also tasted old and like it had been microwaved prior to packaging it in the to go box. Still not worth the money for the low quality of...
Read moreWe visited Ming's Garden in Bucksport, Maine when my family was in town. The restaurant was very accommodating seating such a large group (10 people) quickly. The server was friendly and saw to our table nicely. Portion sizes were plenty, large enough for two people to share if they wanted to, and meals were reasonably priced. My meal was a tad on the dry side; I had White Rice, a Vegetable Egg Roll, and Crab Rangoon. The warm red sweet sauce to dip the egg roll in was delicious, and I poured it over my rice, and that helped with the dryness. Overall, Mingâs is an excellent restaurant to visit if you are hungry and in the mood for Chinese food.
