My husband & I went to Verona Island for a drive today. We stopped in to get something from your bakery. My husband bought a cinnamon stick and we got a large whoopie pie to share at home later on. He said his cinnamon stick was alright, but it was the whoopee pie that was unacceptable. I bake a lot at home and worked as a baker for several years. That whoopie pie was stale. It was so stale that it crumbled apart when I tried to cut it in half. The filling tasted like it was pure shortening. It felt greasy on the tongue & roof of the mouth. Not creamy at all. When I worked as a baker, we purchased pre-made whoopee pie filling in 5 gallon pails. Cheap stuff, to cut corners. That's what your filling tasted like. I can't believe you sold a stale product. It had to have been in excess of one week old. My guess would be closer to two wks. In a reputable bakery, if a product is over a day old, you discount the price the next day & sell them as day Olds. All product should be made fresh daily. And a good bakery is proud of the fact that what they sell is fresh. You should be ashamed for passing off those whoopee pies as fresh. I paid $6.00 for that pie and my husband paid $4.00 for one cinnamon stick. That's highway robbery. Maybe you're used to selling to customers with more money to spend, being in the location you're at. I don't think the average person can afford to frequent your business. We felt taken advantage of, ripped off, and we were. We will not be returning. There are way too many places that are willing to take advantage of people to make their living. I gave you two stars because my husbands cinnamon stick was acceptable, but not worth the $4.00 he had to pay for it. When will people understand that if you have a good product & sell for a reasonable price, you'll sell more product & in the long run make more money. You have a lot to learn...
Read morePassed through here on a trip through Maine and the great reviews attracted us to stop by. Cute spot, but the vibe was automatically weird when the blonde woman working the front stared at me like I had two heads when I told her “everything looks so delicious!” My husband grabbed a breakfast burrito and I asked if they had any breakfast sandwiches without meat, she looked at me like I was an idiot and said “we don’t cook to order.” So I then asked what one of the bars were, and she responded even more annoyed. Even though there were no other customers in the store, she just kept rudely staring at us so I felt pressured and only asked for 1 other bar. She then quickly packaged up the box and we paid. Just kinda threw the box down on the counter and walked away. The food was mediocre but I’ve been to better bakeries, that seemed happy to have our business and answer 2 simple questions...
Read moreWe were visiting from Michigan and Colorado on our way to visit Fort Knox and in desperate need of doughnuts. A quick google brought up "Dunkin Donuts" and Sweet Cheeks Bakery. Do yourself a huge favor and skip Dunkin's and absolutely go here instead. The owners were so great and a true pleasure to interact with. Their selection was expansive, even at 12:30 PM after the morning wave of customers.
They have the largest woopie pie I ever seen and we picked up one to split between four people... Though they said there is nothing wrong with one person eating itall themselves. We got doughnuts, cinnamon rolls and cheese cake that we ate as soon as we got in the car. We also got a brownie for the road. Great selection and even better tasting sweets. Don't miss the opportunity to treat yourself here on your vacation or if you...
