My sister and I went 2/23 to celebrate my birthday. We had reservations for 8, we arrived and due to there being no sign, it's was a difficult to find, Once we entered the establishment we were treated by a server who informed us that the hostess will seat un momentarily, My sister and I stood waiting by the door which was partially open and it was cold outside for almost 10 minutes, the hostess walked by us twice and my sister had to stop him the third time and ask if we could be seated as it was cold just standing by the open door. The ambience was fair as the decor is pleasant, however the tables are very small and I felt like I was in grade school sitting at a desk. It took 25 minutes for our server to come with the menu and bring a magnifying glass as reading the menu was a challenge, between the small print and the lighting the menu was difficult to read. Once we placed our order, our drinks came out after waiting 20 minutes, and we both had the calypso colatas which wasn't much to rave about. After being seated at 8:10, waiting for drinks, putting in our dinner order we finally received our food around 9:30. I ordered the blackened salmon and my sister ordered I believe it was the tour of Jamacia which feeds two. Let's strat with the $8.00 bread basket, the bread didn't taste fresh at all and the waitress asked if it was ok and I told her that it didn't taste fresh and it was not warm. Now on to the appetizers which were these spring rolls where the filling and the flavor of the rolls was barley there. The main course, the blackened Salmon with the coconut sauce, rice and vegetables was flavorless, the rice was cold the vegetables under cooked, the tour of Jamaica wasn't much of a tour as the presentation was just as lifeless as the meal. The rice and peas was cold and the meat was chard and flavorless nothing about this meal felt like Jamaica. My sister and I decided to get our check as the entire dining experience was horrible, the highlight of the evening was when the head server Nick brought a purse stand so that my purse wouldn't have to be placed on the already small table, and as anyone with fine dining experience knows. A lady should never place her handbag on the table or the floor. After paying our bill it was an absolute pleasure to leave as my birthday would have been better off spent eating from a food truck, an over priced sad attempt to turn Jamaica cuisine into upscale fine dining is my impression of Bratts Hill. Chef Darian I am beyond...
Read moreDelicious food! Decided to try this place after it was on the news, we ordered the jerk chicken, the curry chicken, the rasta pasta with chicken, Irish moss peanut drink, and banana bread. Both the curry chicken and jerk chicken came with plantains, red beans and rice, and cabbage. All three of those sides were fantastic, the plantains were so soft and browned and the best we've ever had. The rasta pasta had a cream based sauce and the grilled chicken that was on it was tender and flavorful. The curry chicken was by far the best thing that we had, the flavor of the curry sauce was incredible. The potatoes that came in the curry were nice and soft too. The Irish moss peanut drink was a thick creamy peanut butter flavored drink and it was pretty good. The banana bread was really great too. Our least favorite dish was the jerk chicken. It doesn't compare to the jerk chicken at Kalypso. I honestly don't think any place can beat theirs. The jerk Chicken here did not fall apart, it was only moderately tender, and the sauce was predominantly on the outside of the chicken and skin, the flavor was not through the entire piece of chicken. So if you're looking for a delicious chicken curry with delicious sides, this is the place. If you're looking for the best jerk chicken in the area, go to Kalypso. The atmosphere of this place was really nice, very clean, nice setup of the entire space. The food came out very quickly and the service was great. We spoke to the owner's wife and she was very friendly and informative. This is definitely a place we will be coming back to! 2nd visit update: fantastic service and attention to detail.. cocktails are amazing and refreshing little works of art. Cassava fries were fantastic. Tried the bread basket, the cocoa bread, and the festival bread. The cocoa bread was decent, soft inside. All of the other breads were dense and rather dry, nothing I would order again. Cheese callaloo dip had a nice texture, was not a fan of the flavor. I will stick with the chicken curry and...
Read moreEarlier tonight, my family and I were forced to leave Bratts Hill without dining due to the appalling service and blatant lack of respect. We chose this restaurant to celebrate my father’s birthday, expecting a pleasant experience. My parents had been for lunch before, but this was our first attempt at dinner. To our surprise, the dinner menu was completely different from the lunch menu. Despite this, we decided to stay and spoke with the host about getting a table for three. He took my number, telling us there would be a 30–45 minute wait. We remained in the waiting area, but what happened next was deeply upsetting. A large, majority-white party of over five people arrived and was greeted warmly and assured their table would be ready shortly. This was in stark contrast to how we—a Black family of three—were treated. Not only were we given a cold, dismissive reception, but we were also repeatedly told that the host would “call when our table was ready,” as though he didn’t want us waiting inside. We weren’t offered menus or even the slightest courtesy. Feeling increasingly uncomfortable and unwelcome, we stepped outside to discuss alternatives and ultimately decided to leave. To add insult to injury, we never received a call informing us that our table was ready. This experience was not only disappointing but deeply disheartening. It felt like we were judged and dismissed based on our race. Such behavior is unacceptable, and I hope this review serves as a wake-up call to Bratts Hill: Treat all your customers with the dignity and respect they deserve, regardless of...
