Why am I just finding out about this bodega today?!?! Nevertheless, let me just say Montes GOT IT GOIN ONNNNN!!!!! First off let's discuss cleanliness. Upon entering the bodega, you can immediately tell that it's well kept and a quick glance behind the counter in the food area, yea they cleaning up back there for sure! VERY CLEAN! The bodega also has a "homey" feel to it, like its intertwined with the neighborhood and its people; and that was truly evident by the long line; yet speedy service. Now let's get to the food. IT WAS FRESH AND DELICIOUS!!! I had stains on my shirt cause I was goin in so tough lol Although there was lots of variety of food choices, I got a chicken and cheese pasteilllo, yum! And rice and beans, OH MY!!! The rice and beans just like I remember it when it was homemade as a kid visiting my friend's mamas house, flavorful, moist and delicious. If only I brought my ketchup bottle with me that day lol Anyway, Montes Grocery Deli is a TRUE STAPLE! I recently visited Montes for the first time and was quite impressed. For starters the front of the store is very clean and neat and decorated with beautiful flowers. Inside the store I was greeted by a very friendly young man, who is the nephew of the owner, and the daughter of the owner. The products in the store were neatly displayed on the shelves and everything was so clean and tastefully decorated with Puerto Rican themes. I love everything about this place. It made me feel like if I was in Puerto Rico. After a while I finally met Esther, the owner, who was such a pleasure to speak with. I felt like I knew her for a long time. Lastly but definitely not the least, the food was so delicious and their portions were hearty. I have to agree that the pastelillos were the best I've had in Buffalo. I know they say grocery and deli. But I’m use to groceries including milk, eggs, and bread atleast. Even the deli I’m looking for cold cuts and other meats. You won’t find that here, what you will find though. Some can goods, snacks, candy, and beverages. Right away you realize your coming to Montes for their cook food. It can get quite crowded, and they do a good job and limiting how many people can enter. Menus are posted, and the prices is beyond reasonable.

Pork dinner- comes with rice and a side salad(if you choose). You have two options for the pork meal, fried or pulled. I ordered the pulled pork. Flavors were wonderful. My only complaint would be, that there was some really fatty pieces mixed into the meat.

Pastelillo- Beef and cheese (they do offer other varieties) I like how much filling there was. The perfect beef and cheese ratio.
