I live within walking distance or Swan Street Diner so I've been there to eat many times, I go almost every week. The food is always great and the service usually is too. Today was the first bad experience I've had. A couple friends and I had finished our meals and our checks had just been taken to the register to pay when one of the staff (who was not our server) came to our table and asked if we had been cashed out yet. At this point the three of us kind of got the vibe that she was rushing us to leave but we just brushed it off as maybe just a misunderstanding. So our server comes back with our checks we sign them put our cards and wallets away, and 45 seconds to a minute later the same woman comes back and says "are you guys all set because we have other people waiting". The three of us were caught off guard none of us had ever felt like we were being rushed out of a restaurant before but we said yes we're leaving. I understand you have to serve the next guests, but it's not like we had paid and were sitting there for 10 minutes we literally JUST got our credit cards back, put them away, said a few words to each other and were already being asked if we were leaving. It basically felt like "okay you ate, you paid, now get out". The whole situation was uncomfortable for us and made for a negative experience at a place where it's usually...
Read moreI expected more. I ordered the West Coast burger and when it came it came on toast (the waitress told me they were out of buns but didn't let me know because, accordingly, she didn't know they were out of buns). The burger was unspectacular, a bit chewy, lukewarm and pretty much devoid of the fried onions that were supposed to come on it. The fries, though fresh cut, were also bordering on cold and mushy. On the Specials board was advertised a Coconut/Chocolate donut. When I asked for one I was told they were out. On my waitress' behalf she did leave the fries off my check. Good. But when I mentioned this, in a very reasonable manner, to a different waitress, she responded, in a very condescending tone, made excuses blamed everything on it being incredibly busy the past few days. Okay, I guess that's fine. But I never felt welcome in this establishment. I felt that I was a burden. That is not supposed to be how it is in the service industry. And the little things: If you are out of a donut or a special, MARK IT OUT on the dry erase. It's really that easy. I'm pretty easy to please - make my food hot and the way I ordered it. That's all. And don't talk down to customers, ever! I love diners! I've been to them all over the country! I really, really wanted to love Swan...
Read moreWe bought into the hype of this lil diner because we are diner hunters along the east coast. Arrived at 10:55 on a Sunday morning, knowing we would have to wait...but 50 mins! I think we nuts but figured, okay. Had to go back in to ask what happened to our text & she realizes there are seats at the counter!! Whatever, so we are happy to sit, all starts out well, water, coffee, our order goes in & we turn into ghosts. The waitress was just all over the place & realizes 45 mins later!! we have no food yet! She never looked at us after she took our order, never asked if we wanted more coffee, zip. So much time invested, we had to finish it out. It was SOooo embarrassing & disheartening to watch people come & go & we are just left. Another waitress tries to tell us the smaller burritos take more time, omg, please. When the food finally arrived, I was in tears & our breakfasts weren't worth the hype whatsoever. The house hash is pretty bland & ordered easy over eggs & got medium, no running of the yolk. Ordered avocado & it was all dingy. The ditsy waitress gave us 20% off, but it did not alleviate any of the agony of this incredibly overrated diner of mediocre food, nothing...
