Island Mix — Restaurant in Buffalo

I am not one to leave reviews but this is my THIRD horrible encounter with the owner of this business, Octave Nonhome. Not only does the owner hang up on you, but has screamed at me and a co-worker of mine in store. I ordered online a meal that said “fish dinner” with no other description, on the menu there are multiple “fish dinner” i proceeded with my ordered choosing mac and cheese as a side. After i picked up the order it was a piece of fish, mac, and fries. it didn’t seem correct so I called and asked what came with the fish dinner, the owner said “cabbage, rice and beans, and your choice of side” so i said okay i think my order is incorrect can i please come back and fix it? he hangs up. i get there and ask to fix it, he proceeds to tell me it wasn’t a fish dinner that i ordered so i show him the receipt and he says that the price is cheaper then the other fish dinner so this one is different. i’m asking how and at this point he’s yelling saying that wasn’t how he received the order and i’m begging for them to just fix it and let me pay for the rest of what was incorrect because i am on my lunch break. i’m visibly upset and raising my own voice by this time. he says he’s yelling because i’m yelling and i ask is that how an owner conducts business whith an upset customer which then he just demands the food back and to see the receipt. as i am showing it to him he is completely looking past me and says he won’t do anything to help me if won’t show him but he literally will not look at the receipt. after about 10minuets of back and forth he finally fixes the food and hurries me out. Ordered delivery as my first experience here. Prices are reasonable and the portions of sides are gargantuan. The two main dishes ordered were fried chicken and jerk shrimp. The jerk shrimp with peppers and onions were cooked well, had great spiced flavor, and a respectable spicy heat. The cabbage was well flavored without being overpowering in any way.

Unfortunately the rest of the meal was impressively bland. The rice and beans were terrible - I had to do some serious spice cabinet work to force them down. The mac and cheese was grade-school cafeteria bad. The worst was the fried chicken. It tasted unseasoned and like it was cooked in fresh oil. There was so little flavor I couldn't get through half the pieces. I ended up pulling the meat off, and mixing it with the mac with a large amount of hot sauce just to not waste it.

I’ve tried unsuccessfully to patronize this business or more than one occasion. Each time they allow me to order my food and make me wait longer than the time in which they claim it will be ready, only to then call me and say, oh we didn’t have that today. This happened AGAIN today with a grubhub order and they waited until the driver was there to pick up the order to say that they didn’t have one of the entrees available and that they hadn’t even started the other. I was advised that they also didn’t have anything else to substitute for the price I paid. When I asked what I should do, I was told that they were very busy and he didn’t have “time for this.” And I was hung up on.
