TL;DR: Cockroach problem exacerbated by woefully incompetent and rude service.
Let me preface this by saying that I do not usually write negative reviews. Customers can be unreasonable and often exaggerate. However, I assure you, the following is all true. My stay at the Wyndham Garden Buffalo Downtown was scheduled for 3 nights. The stay was actually quite pleasant for the first two nights. On the morning after the third night I woke up in preparation to freshen up, pack, and check out. I turned on my bedside lamp and froze. There was a large cockroach right next to where my hand was (near the lamp switch). I was immediately sick to my stomach. How long had that thing been crawling around my room? Around my bed while I was asleep? How many were there hiding in dark corners? After I got over my initial shock I took a picture, because I was worried of not being believed. The cockroach soon skittered into darkness and obscurity behind the bed. I know that this hotel is not a 5-star hotel, but I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a 3-star hotel not to best infested with roaches (especially one that charged $280/night). After that, I packed up immediately and in a hurry. I didn't bother to take a shower - I just wanted to leave. When I arrived at the check-out counter there was no one else in the lobby and a lone employee working the front desk. He asked for my keycards and my room number and told me I could leave. He did not ask me how my stay was, which would usually be fine if it weren't for the fact that my entire stay had just been ruined by this cockroach. So, I just told him directly - there was a cockroach in my room and I was upset. I was not looking for any benefit or room upgrades (as some people might when they complain at a hotel). I was checked out. My bags were packed. I just wanted to be taken seriously and treated like a human being. Even a mild "sorry this negatively impacted your experience with us" would have sufficed. I guess I expected too much. The desk clerk barely looked up from what he was doing and simply said "mmhm, we'll look into it." End of conversation. Good bye. Dismissed. Four and a half words and not a glance. I can only conclude one of two things from this non-response: (1) the hotel was fully aware of this roach problem and this was not new information; and/or (2) me and my concern/experience were not worth taking seriously. Either way, horrible. I sat down quietly for a few minutes processing this interaction. I decided to approach the clerk again and express that I did not feel like his response adequately addressed my concerns. I told him if he did not believe me I could show him the pictures. He responded, "I already told you we'd look into it". But he did look at me this time, but only to facially express that I was being a nuisance. If this were a restaurant, and a customer just told you they found a cockroach at the bottom of their soup, would the adequate response be, "mmhmm, we'll look into it. goodbye"? Since he was not being very helpful, I asked to speak to a supervisor. He claimed he was the supervisor and would not get anyone else for me. I asked for his name and he refused to disclose it. That cowardice speaks for itself. Since I don't know his name, I can only say that he has shoulder-length hair and wears glasses. If you ever have the misfortune of staying at this hotel, at least save yourself some further suffering by avoiding this man. Unless of course you enjoy feeling like garbage. If this man truly is in management, well, I guess this only further reflects on the quality of Wyndham properties at all levels. Altogether it was a rather surreal experience. Kafka-esque even. I woke up and saw a roach, but if I didn't know any better, I'd have thought the roach was me. p.s. can't seem to attach a photo of the roach here, but I plan on posting this on other review sites and attach...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel so we could attend an event at the Keybank Center. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we had a late start to our trip and did not arrive until 1 hour before the concert was due to start. Randy, who was on the check-ins desk when we arrived, quickly figured out why we were there. He told us of several options to arrive at our destination, and we chose to go by cab. He asked if we minded sharing, to get us there quicker. We agreed, and the other couple agreed, and so he called us a cab and told us that they would be there in 5 minutes. It didn't feel anywhere close to 5 minutes, but he was already on the phone asking where they were. In the midst of this, there were several other customers taking the shuttle, and he was helping them also. Even though he was taking care of several other customers, he made every one of us feel like we were the most important. Neither the other customers who agreed to share with us nor us ever once said any negative word at all, Randy took over our issue with aplomb and authority, and soon had us on a shuttle to take us to the event. When we came back to our room, it was spotless and roomy, and those clean and crisp yet SOFT sheets were just what we needed! We came back too late for room service, and it seems Buffalo rolls up its sidewalks at 11 but the Wyndham has an awesome little convenience room with sandwiches, cheese and crackers, beer and wine, and all sorts of goodies to save the day. Our room was the quietest hotel room I have ever stayed in. We never heard anyone coming down the hall, or any noise from either of our adjoining rooms. In the morning, we went into the in-hotel restaurant for breakfast. Jessica was our waitress, and she was very friendly and personable. She told us to choose where we wanted to sit, and immediately came over to wipe down our table for us, and dry it afterwards. We ordered the omelets...fast, speedy, and well over an inch thick! And the price, for what we ordered, was extremely reasonable. All in all, a fantastic place to stay! We showed up in Carhartts and were quite clearly part of the working class, yet this hotel treated us like visiting royalty. And then we find out we had a free upgrade to a larger room....! Any other hotel would have pointed this out the moment we walked in. This place.... again, we felt like visiting royalty. Randy and Jessica were absolutely wonderful!!! Everybody we dealt with was great, but those two were really awesome! Valet parking (we drive a HUGE pickup truck) and to-the -door service.... Parking was not free, but a bargain compared to trying to find a place to park a way oversized pickup truck (Dodge 2500 with heave duty shocks, full size cab and full size bed.) I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Buffalo, and I know that next time I travel to Buffalo for an event, THIS is where I will be staying. Thank you, Wyndham Garden Buffalo Downtown, for making my trip memorable for all the...
Read moreThe rooms and location were very nice and clean. I was pretty disappointed because I usually book my hotels on booking com so I can get my points saved up for a free stay but since my husband has cancer and we were staying there for a medical appt at Roswell they told me to cancel my reservation online and book it at the front desk and theyd give me the Roswell medical discount. I did the two separate times that we stayed there and got charged more than I initially was charged going through booking.com. I was extremely upset with this and also I used their valet which is 25 dollars a day but they hold 100 until you leave well they didn't clarify that they were going to take 100 dollars a day for valet on top of being overcharged for the room. There was also an issue with false advertisement. I got the king suite with the Jacuzzi, well when we got up to our room there was no Jacuzzi so when I asked the front desk apparently they don't have jacuzzis in any of their rooms so that was pretty disappointing as well. We decided to stay an extra two days because we live quite a ways away from the hotel and when I called down to ask if we could book the room for another night I was told I couldn't have the same room and would have to pack all my things up which I have a 4 month old and a 3 year old so you can imagine this defeated the purpose completely to stay if we just had to pack up anyways, the man I spoke to on the phone was super kind and accommodating he just said I had to come down to the front desk to rerun my card again. When I got to the desk there was a woman standing there and she was being extremely snippy and rude. I asked is there any chance we'd be able to stay in the room were already in or is that option completely off the table she yelled at me and rolled her eyes and spoke to me like I was a child and said "yeah no absolutely not you cannot stay in that room you have to move just like you were already told!" As soon as she finished her sentence the man on the phone came walking out and said okay I spoke to our manager and your all set to stay in the same room so you don't need to pack and move and be inconvenienced. I loved the look on that ignorant woman's face and how shocked she was lol but anywhoo is probably staying again but I definitely would use booking.com since it's much cheaper and park your own car because I ended up spending around 600 dollars just to have my car sitting in a...
