Location: Sportsmenâs Tavern Order: 10 Hot Wings and 10 Gregâs Wings
Letâs keep the good times rollinâ! I stopped into the Sportsmenâs Tavern for a show and had the great opportunity to talk with Jason HallâOne of the proprietors of this fine establishment. They are currently re-vamping their menu, but one thing that has consistently been on it is their chicken wings. They offer two different styles here. One is your traditional buffalo wing and the other are âGregâs Wingsâ. Gregâs wings are a dry spice-rubbed chicken wing that are fried, grilled and then tossed in sauce. They are fried for first five minutes of cooking time, then theyâre grilled for the other 80 percent of the way. Both options are served with a fresh, blue-cheese. I always forget how nice it is to not have to ask for blue cheese (There are a lot of dreaded ranch degenerates out there!). If given the option, I would order the Gregâs wings over the traditional. While the traditional buffalo wing had some crisp to it, it couldâve definitely #RespectTheCrisp a little more. For this, we give these a respectable 7.7. The Gregâs wings were grilled to perfection and packed a slight punch. Surprisingly, these wings had a crisp to them, despite being grilled. For that, we give these Gregâs wings an 8.1. Definitely stop in for a show and grab some wings from this fine establishment!

Read moreWell, with so many good reviews maybe I caught this place on a bad night... This was my first time here. First, there was no air conditioning. I'm not sure if it was broken or that's just the way they roll but it was really, really hot. Almost unbearably so. It's a dive bar with a sound stage... Loose tile on the floor, our table wobbled, the chairs have seen better days. It has a dining room/bar downstairs and a bar/dining room/balcony upstairs. From the balcony you look straight down on the band. Because the show we attended was sold out, they had a limited menu which wasn't all that appealing, but I understand the intent behind it. What I don't understand was having one server for the entire downstairs... đ¤ˇââď¸ The food was underwhelming, there wasn't a lager, pilsner or kolsch on draft and they ran out of glasses. Midway through the service they switched to smaller plastic cups. And we were overcharged. When we brought it to the attention of the bar tender he said we'd have to wait for the manager... After 10 minutes of waiting it was clear she was just too busy to address our problem. We gave up and paid the overcharged bill. Did I mention it was really hot in there? The service staff were all really nice which is why this gets a 2 instead of a 1 star review.
We saw a lot of locals and obviously people really seem to like coming here. However, I don't think I'll be back, especially if...
Read moreMy third time visiting the tavern. Great venue for local and well-known bands. I sat at a table next to the stage and upstairs in the balcony. The sound is great throughout the building. Bar on first and second floor. Terrific live video screen above the band for all to see close up, AND screens upstairs for all to see there. Plenty of seating whether table, bar, tall table, or balcony railing tables. The artwork attached to the walls spans from paintings, drawings, metal work, conglomerate collections, etc. Looking up at the ceiling is a view to cherish with strong wooded open beams, very well built and maintained. I didn't know what to expect for food quality, but the standard tavern chicken tenders were nicely breaded, cooked and seasoned just right; steak fries were delicious. Feeling hospitable, enjoy the turkey/bacon club sandwich with fries. Bacon was cooked just right, turkey was fresh, very easy to eat and enjoy. Our party of four greatly enjoyed the experience. And do not let me forget to mention our server. We were brought menus, told of specials, and brought our orders by the...
