Went in with prior college experience and thought it would be a good option for the price, I mean how bad could it be? This school is a joke. Most (not all) of the teachers are un-motivated and lazy. The past 12 classes I've taken here have been repeats of themselves. Even getting classes is a joke, I walked around for 4 hours and called about 20 people on the phone before I finally just went to the dean to give me my classes because not a single person on campus knew anything about registering. The staff is non-existent, clue-less and hate their lives. The library is a joke, they never have any books, which if they do they are all out of order or better yet lost on the 4 floors of library shelving, and you can't even use a computer because all the mouse's and keyboards are stolen. The dining hall sucks and food selection blows. Although they do have an ice cream and grilled cheese stand available at 8 am though, because that's what we all eat for breakfast right? They have people triple rooming in 2 person dorms, and they hold absolutely no events for anyone that goes here, even though you are charged a pretty high student activity fee. Actually I lied, they did hold a fried chicken give away that got out of control real fast one time which was pretty entertaining. There are no gatherings/parties or even students actively in general on the campus so good luck meeting people. Every other week it seems like someone is either getting stabbed or mugged. The place is over crowded with bike cops who constantly pull people over and write tickets for cars even though they have parking passes.(I know at least 5 people this has happened to personally) But hey there weren't 2 stabbings and 2 rape cases in the first month of school making it the most hostile campus in the country last year or anything...oh wait...parking tickets are more important than people dying. Overall you should steer clear of this place if you are considering it, even community colleges are years ahead of this embarrassment of an institution. It's really sad honestly, I wish it was better. Go to NCCC, ECC, Medaille, UB or better yet home-school instead. One good thing I can say about this place though was it is very culturally diverse. It's probably 10% white, 70% black and...
Read moreBuffalo State is a joke that isn't even funny. It is located in the middle of the ghetto, there have been several students mugged on campus. The campus is very ugly and looks like a prison, contains no grass, just concrete and snow, it also happens to be directly across from an abandoned pych ward. Student population is awful, mostly kids who barely have a command of the English language which results in classes being dumbed down. Also a large returning student population so yes there will be plenty of single moms who bring their babies to class! There was a student in the 1ST WEEK of classes who threw a tantrum and slammed the door and went into the hall kicking garbage cans over, there was also a huge brawl involving DOZENS of students in the dorms that week... i did not see anything like this in over 2 years at UB. There are a lot of friendly and knowledgeable professors but the the programs lack structure and clarity--you can take the same class with a different professor and it will be a COMPLETELY different class. One professor refused to learn how to use a computer... another one literally had 14 cancelled classes in one semester! Many professors are not PhD's but just random Buff State/UB grads who stuck around so long they got a job. Requirements for programs are often vague and change depending on who you talk to. Almost EVERYONE at buff state has to end up staying longer due to some "hidden requirement". For those living on campus, the school has serious overcrowding so they have several 2 person rooms with 3 people living in them..not at a discounted price! If you are just looking for an easy degree, or want an inflated GPA to go on to a professional school then Buff state may be for you, but if you want to actually be educated and have a quality college experience--then I would imagine this is the worst SUNY one could attend considering the educational quality and the fact that living near campus is risking your life. Just spend the extra coin and go to UB or start out at a...
Read moreThis is thankfully my daughter's last year. Apparently we picked the wrong college. She complains all the time how her professors never respond to her inquires, can't be found and just don't care. I get it, they consider them adults at 18 but lets be real, they are still children who need a little guidance. She almost failed a class because English was not the professors first language and couldn't understand him. When asked to repeat himself, he'd get upset. The school is building more classrooms instead of dorms, knowing dam well most of the kids are from outside of the 35 miles needed to have on-campus housing. Her first year she had to share her room with 2 roommates instead of 1 which caused much ciaos. the next 2 years she was wait listed and stressed because she didn't know if she had a place to stay and this year we signed up for Campus Walk because she was told there was limited room for senior housing this year!! HOW?? Now I'm stuck with a lease for 12 mths even though she will be in school for 10 with no intention of staying in Buffalo. I feel Campus Walk took advantage, knowing they don't get their refunds until October. I was told they would work with the students and wait for the refunds but that didn't happen. They are charging them rent for August and not allowing them to move in till Aug 23. The construction isn't finished yet. They charge a $35 late fee and $5 everyday after. I'm sorry but they know these kids don't read so they tell them what they want to hear, not realizing they are stuck. They have students answering the phones and giving out incorrect information. I could go on and on. I was hoping for more diversity on campus but it's not what I expected. We come from the city and most of the kids are from the city. Had I know all this, we would...
