TLDR: First time visit, and was there as a support person/spectator at the State level cornhole tournament. Maybe this place is good when it’s not busy. Today, both my experience and the experience of others who were attending this event, some staff were extremely disrespectful and rude. My request to management is that the footage of our ordering timing and verbal treatment from the bar staff be reviewed. If you decide to respond to discredit this review, please provide a public link to the video of me interacting with your bar staff and let the public decide for themselves what was unhealthy communication. It was ~1:14pm. 🎥
I do not recommend larger events come here without better staff structure and management support. It’s not worth it for people to be treated this way. I’d rather we had played at a park in the crummy weather and rain.
Details: The bar appeared to be understaffed, and I was informed of (and 100% understanding of) long wait times. I’ve worked food service before, and I totally get it. Not a problem.
Ordered a beer at the bar at around noon - only one bartender with a long line and no informative beer list available to help those in line make their decision before reaching the bar. Asked 2-3 questions about what dark beers they had, made my selection and added it to the tab. Planned on tipping well, as she was clearly stressed.
Husband ordered food about an hour later, and was told the wait would be over 30 minutes. Checked back at the bar around 15-20 minutes later, and was told our food had arrived and it was at the far end of the bar on a tray. Walked to the tray, but it was somebody else’s order (different food, and they were already in the process of retrieving it). I waited patiently for a couple minutes for the bartenders to have bandwidth to recognize I was still waiting and check in. When she realized I was still waiting, she walked over and asked me what the problem was. I let her know that the food on the tray wasn’t mine, as it was different items and someone else was already picking it up, so I was just going to wait for my food. She then yelled at me for letting someone else walk off with my food. That was shocking, since it clearly wasn’t my order.
Another staff person was helping that bartender by this point, and the second person asked me from the other side of the room a question about my food order. I can’t remember exactly what she asked, because at this point it has been overshadowed by the latter part of the exchange. Responded to her in a similar volume and an even tone. In what I believe was probably an act of solidarity by that second employee, I was then yelled at by her (still from the opposite side of the room) that I was being loud with my complaints(?). Bear in mind, I wasn’t complaining or blaming the bar staff for anything. I was just letting responding to her question, and let them know that the order they thought was mine was someone else’s, and I was just going to wait for my food.
I then expressed my confusion at being yelled at. The initial bartender I interacted with on multiple occasions during our exchange insisted that my food not being there was my fault. 15 minutes early? 🤨
I understand the stress that can occur when employees are understaffed and under supported. It seems to me that the bar staff was completely unsupported during this time when there was a planned influx of patrons for the tournament, and they were taking their stress out on customers.
TBH it seems like the employees acted the way they did because they are in an environment where they are not supported. As a bartender/waitstaff, if you know management has your back and you are doing the best that you can for your patrons, your ability to provide quality customer service is still good. You manage expectations, communicate clearly, and do the best you can. Tips can be great during that kind of environment. But that’s no reason to take it out on a customer patiently waiting for their order and responding to your questions/statements neutrally with their...
Read moreWe've eaten at Tannery Row now, probably 5-6 times, including last night. It's definitely one of my favorite places to go with my family. We have 3 younger kids and I am a vegetarian and the menu has such variety that it appeals to everyone. I've never had anything on the menu that wasn't awesome - and everyone else has said the same thing. I went with a bigger group of family and a few guys got burgers and said they were the best ever. The restaurant is inside of a historic tannery - basically a leather factory. Tons of character, exposed brick, old windows - a really cool atmosphere. The space is gigantic, I bet they do a lot of events, you could fit hundreds inside the huge space. There's a movie-theater-sized big screen, along with lots of other screens and TV's. I've heard it's packed on game days and the place to be for a big game. I once ate there with a group of maybe 12, and they easily accommodate bigger parties. But, you can also sit within a smaller area - almost a restaurant within a larger event space. There's an even more intimate dining and bar area, completely closed off from the larger space, if that's more your thing. We ate there for the first time last night, and I liked that. I also liked the bathrooms in there more than the other ones. The restrooms in the main area are small and stark. The ones in the smaller enclosed area have a ton of character and as you walk to them, the hallway is filled with old pictures of the historic tannery and even an old saddle, presumably made there. The service has always been very friendly - we've always had a great experience. Overall, my favorite part of eating there is that the menu is diverse and no one has ever had anything they didn't love. As a vegetarian, I can find several different things to satisfy my tastes, which is actually harder than you'd think. But don't worry, guys, there's LOTS of meat on the menu. The server said the meatloaf is their top-seller and the burgers get rave reviews. Last night, I had the veggie pizza and it was AMAZING! The have a stone-fired grill and the crust was incredible. It was topped with a jalapeno ranch that added some kick. I've also had the portabello mushroom sandwich with sweet potato tots and that is one of my favorite meals there too. Great place for families and although I've never experienced it personally, I'm betting it's super fun for a big...
Read morePrior to 2022 I gave up on Tannery Row. Every time we went there there was always an issue. In 2022, I was told new owner, new management, new menu, so we gave it another try. Actually 4 tries, and each time they dropped the ball again. There is always an excuse with this place. Short Staffed, No Wings Available, beer taps are dry, bringing wrong food, missing food from orders, one person in our party getting dinner after the rest of us were done eating.
We went again last night for the national championship game and it wasn't any better. First, they didn't have our reservation. After finding a seat for us, we sat and waited over 45 minutes before a server came to our table. Short staffed...again! After placing our order the food came out about an hour later. I can let that slide they were extremely busy. But drinks never came out. I had to continuously go order and pick up my own drinks. The bar was also 30+ drink orders behind. One bartender was filling beer pitchers from plastic beer cups that were full behind the bar, then putting the beer cups back into the stack to be used again.
The owner was just standing around hanging out with his friends while the staff drowned.
Last night, for the second time in 3 months, I was told an amount to pay. Once the credit card machine was handed to me, the charge was different. Way more than what it should have been. Last night I just paid it. When I went through this same scenario in November 2022, the wait staff couldn't figure out how to fix the issue, so I just lost the extra money.
I'm not going to say "don't go" to Tannery Row, but I will say that you probably need to be prepared for a poor experience. To their credit though, the wings (when they have them) are great. The bands they book are generally good and the speakeasy located inside is...
