5/2024 update. I normally don't leave negative reviews but this one took the cake.
This place has strayed far from what it used to be. I remember coming here and receiving great service, great food, and great customer interaction. It was somewhere we looked forward to going and we looked forward to the conversation and atmosphere.
How things have changed. We came in and immediately were rushed to order drinks, appetizers, and our mains. No how are you, how pleasantries, nothing. Just what you like, and it was done so in a manner which made you feel rushed as if you were annoying the staff because you were taking time to decide.
When the food did eventually come, it was mediocre at best. The Basil MahiMahi was dry and the piece was clearly overly fried or rapidly defrosted from frozen. It has that stringy texture you have with improperly thawed fish.
The pad thai and drunken noodle were decent, but a far cry what they used to be. Red curry was good. Aside from that, I don't think anything stood out.
Here come the odd piece. We were a party of four. We ordered plenty off food and drink, well over $120. When the bill came, there was a hefty $30 tip slapped on top of the bill - for bringing a few drinks, a few plates, and taking an order.
We were out for a birthday event, so I didn't want to make a fuss of it. But surely - this seemed out of the norm. I don't know if the waiter was new, or he was rushed to get things done so he could go home, I don't know. Frankly, I don't care.
For the lack luster level of service, the mediocre food, and the outrageous service fee which was slapped on top without any warning....
I have to say the restaurant needs new management. And frankly, new staff. Judging by the other reviews and attempts to address "misunderstandings" in previous responses, it looks like they'd rather make excuses than fix the problems.
I'd avoid this place and seek elsewhere for thai food. There are much better places with better food, better service, and better Staff.
Previous review: I gotta say, this is probably one of my most favorite thai spots in north eastern GA. We stay in Alpharetta and frequent areas up this way. By far, this spot takes number one on service, atmosphere, and flavor! Get anything with Basil be is fried rice or a curry. The flavors were savory, sweet, sour, spicy and very complex. Highly recommend this spot and bring your friends. The tables they...
Read moreTani Thai is sort of a hidden treasure when it comes to Thai food in the Buford area. It's located on old downtown Buford strip which is currently redeveloping with lots of new businesses soon to open. Look forward to this area being quite the attraction in the future.
The restaurant sits in a large space that can more than accommodate a large amount of customers. The interior has dark wood tones with the tables covered in white to add contrast. Nice ambiance for sure. Great for social gatherings or date nights. There is also a bar as well. Very classy look that at the same time very homely and inviting.
The menu is pretty typical of what you would find at most Thai restaurants. Check it out if you're curious. All the food can be made spicy but there is a little pepper to indicate if it's spicy by default. Spice levels range from 1 to 5. If you're daring ask them for "Thai Hot" which to any Thai person basically translates to make it as hot as you possibly can.
These are the items I ordered: -Thai Iced Tea (more milk than I'm used to, but still tasty) -Panang Duck (curry was flavorful, duck was a little chewy) -Shrimp Drunken Noodle (Spicy but good flavor) -Shrimp Cones (crispy and delicious) -Tiger Tears (nice flavoring, meat could've been more tender)
Overall, I thought the food tasted great. Service was good as well, they do check on you, but not constantly which is what I prefer. The only small hiccup was they gave me a different duck dish at first than the one I originally ordered, but they corrected it right away.
Definitely worth checking...
Read moreIt’s a shame because the food is great, however, some of the staff are the most rude I’ve ever experienced in the food industry. We decided to give this place another chance tonight after already having a bad experience a few months ago, however, we will NOT be back. Tonight we came in nearly an hour before closing, the man who sat us was extremely rude and told us we had 10 minutes to decide what to order because the kitchen closes at 9:30 (restaurant closes at 10). He was so rude, rushed, and inhospitable. This is the SECOND time we have come to this restaurant and have been made to feel unwelcome.
If you want to be done serving and out at a certain time, change your hours. It is unacceptable to have to sit through a meal and be made to feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. If you want customers, then step your service up.
The last time this happened, we also came an hour before closing, or so we thought, but the hours were apparently wrong on Google and the young male host who sat us condescendingly told us we were wrong and they closed in 30 minutes. We got up and LEFT because he was so rude. It’s unfortunate that tonight we learned that nothing has changed.
If you want to be a valued customer, don’t go here at all. They obviously do not value people who keep them...
